I know MiChielle. She posted this about a NO KING protest in Emporia. She voted for Trump three times. And here she seems upset that US citizens showed up yesterday for the nationwide NO KING protests.

She’s also, IMO, working hard to justify Trump’s destruction of democracy in America. This is what MAGATS do. They rationalize every horror, every bit of injustice.

MiChielle is also wrong. Since the founding of America, scholars have been arguing: is the country a democracy or a constitutional republic?

To me, this is not the point. What MiChielle conveniently overlooks is that government in the United States is based on a Constitution which is the supreme law of the United States.

And guess what the First Amendment of the Constitution protects? Yes, the right to protest.

At the protest I attended in Fremont Park, Emporia, an obvious Trump supporter was standing in her yard across from the park, screaming (and I mean SCREAMING) at us, non-stop. I had no idea what she was saying and thought it best to ignore her. As I left I saw that the police were in her yard and she was screaming at them, too. Why does extreme anger typify so many Trump supporters? The whole world saw this on 1/6.

And what follows are images which cheer me.

Yesterday. Ocean Beach, CA.

Yesterday. NYC. And the protest was just as long in the other direction.

San Francisco.

Des Moines, Iowa

Chicago

Boise

West Palm Beach, Florida

The size of these crowds should not be surprising as more people did NOT for Trump than for him.

Never forget that.

And MiChielle? Today, we have fewer freedoms than we did before Trump. And, as things are going, we will likely have fewer still a year from now. And two years from now. And three years from now.

This ain’t MY America.

Thanks for going to your protest. My husband and I were both at ours — about 250 people in our tiny mostly red town in Nevada in 95 degree heat. I loved it. There were some felon supporters who drove by but lots more honking, waving, and thumbs up from others. The best sign at ours (in my opinion) was ‘So Much Wrong, So Little Cardboard.’

Yesterday gives me some small measure of hope.

The sheer denial that people have and their continued support of the felon is just mind boggling. But they don’t care as long as it doesn’t affect them. And they’re “moral superiority” makes me want to gag. “Christian party my ass” Thank you to all who participated. (I didn’t due to health issues, but try to do my little part and post info on my facebook page. But I pray to God to keep me honest and not be mean about it.

There was even a little gathering in my teeny town in the heart of the Sonoran 🏜 Desert. Only about 1500 people here in the summer and we’re in the midst of an extreme heatwave, so I rode downtown my bike downtown early, not knowing the start time but hoping it would happen while still cool. But alas. I went home and put up brand-new Tibetan prayer flags for the occasion and missed the rather short protest – I didn’t feel like buzzing back down again as the temperature rose. But I’ve enjoyed the hundreds of photos from around the country – and world.

I’d participated in a 20,000 person Women’s March in S. Cali in 2017 and a large March for Science nearby in another SCali city a few months later. Also two repeats of Women’s Marches in 2018 &19 in other Cali locations, so I’ve at least experienced the sense of purpose and community that manifests in these actions. Still, I’m a little sorry to not participate as directly in this historic event, but my heart was connected. Thank you for sharing your story.

MAGA behavior is often cult behavior and I think much of the anger is fear-driven. Science says the conservative mind is more prone to fear.

    Thanks, Ross.

Ross, maybe you can explain to me how the votes from small towns, big towns, are tabulated and sent to the county and then to the state. Is it by phone, computer? Because clearly Donnie did not win the election. And he even thanked Elon for all his computer work here in Pennsylvania. I know I could just Google it, but I’m curious as to how the counting really works. And can it be manipulated.

    Excellent post.

Perhaps you—or, one would hope, MiChielle—would be interested in the article linked below.

Noted (conservative-leaning) legal scholar Eugene Volokh has written that the argumentative contention that “The United States is a REPUBLIC, dammit!” is specious.

    See here.

    Enjoy!

I really feel for you with these attacks on your basic principals. There is a clear playbook of propaganda and misinformation with attacks on education. As a retired teacher I can only repeat what one Labour government said: education, education, education is the future. That same government raised basic levels with their policies of literacy and numeracy hours. This was of course all reversed by the next Conservative government. It is not in their interests to have people understand what they are voting for and against. How else will they blind people with the next shiny thing.
If or hopefully when you have midterms do the same as 2018. Oh they are eroding voting rights.
I just have one question: how is it people forgot what an awful mess the last Trump government was? We are bewildered.

He said it. He loves the uneducated. 2024 just proved how many uneducated we have in this country and how many are gullible or just plain apathetic. (I might also add racist and misogynist.)

It was a perfect storm of stupid.

My favorite sign from our very large rally in a tiny western NC town: Time for this Republican to join the Democrats. YES!! And I thanked the man carrying it.

MAGAts only recognize the Second amendment.

It’s why they don’t understand the posse comitatas act or that President Convicted Felon has violated his oath of office and the Constitution more than once, committed impeachable offenses and could even face Federal prison for doing so if he is impeached.

My fear is all of this is a precursor to declaring a state of emergency and suspending elections, because Stephen Miller and the rest of the fascist regime know that if they allow the midterm elections. there is a possibility both Houses of Congress will have a Democratic majority and enough votes to impeach Donnie 2 Dolls and remove him from office and even send him to prison. And he will just be the first. Hegseth will likely be next, whether he is still in office or not. Possibly Pam Bondi and Stephen Miller and Homan and Gabbard. We’ve seen they will do anything to stay in power and avoid any consequences for their illegal actions.

I think 2024 might have been this country’s last free election. If there are any more, they will be so rigged that Republicans only will win from now on.
