Octagon Bedroom. Mudding Begins!

With my computer landline still being offline, it has been hit or miss if I can post anything by using my smartphone as a hotspot.

For most of the day this has not worked but it seems to be working now!

So (drum roll, please), I present this post!

With outside temperatures precluding any outside work, today I taped and mudded the “temporary” wall in the Octagon Bedroom suite! Squee! Squee!

And tomorrow? Monday?

Two thrilling things are expected to happen:

  1. A new router should arrive, fixing the internet issue.
  2. I have an adventure. A thrilling adventure.

Stay tuned…

    Hi Ross!

    Enjoy the adventure!!!

My favorite thing about you is your sense of wonder and excitement with a new adventure!!

Gosh! What could that adventure be???? Not scaling the Great north chimney because of the weather, right??
Are you getting to have a “fun” day and go bumming for antiques?? That would be thrilling…for me anyway!!
Are you moving a load to the carriage house? Not so thrilling.
    Can’t wait to find out!!

Exciting! Can you remind me why the wall is temporary?

    • Barb Sanford on November 30, 2020 at 9:00 am

If I remember correctly, it’s “temporary” because it’s not original to the house. So Ross is building it so it can be removed later if a new owner wants to return the house to its original configuration.

I like how the wall follows the shape of the turret. I love your eye for details, big and small.

I completely agree. It also creates a niche for the bed, which makes it more of a focal point, while making the furnished room appear larger because the bed doesn’t stick out as far.

Ross, I may be throwing you a horse before you get a cart, but something we have struggled with for years now was getting wifi coverage throughout our entire house. The routers and add-ons that we purchased and/or rented from our internet companies never quite cut the mustard; we always have had areas with no signal. Since the Cross house is larger than mine, I’m sure you may encounter the same thing…anyhow, we recently purchased an ORBI router with two satellite units, and it works great. The ORBI router plugs into the provider’s modem, and it links to the two satellite units which we placed at each end of the second floor. We now have a strong signal everywhere.

Hi. Been awhile since i commented, but wanted to send my encouragement…. and say, Ahhhh….small victories! They always keep us going.
Just one question tho, ….. i remember the original walls had ripped out with new ones installed when the house was converted into a hotel. So, is Barb correct in her statement that youre putting back the walls, as any good restorer does, but not in their original position? Or original, but temporary?
    Just a bit confused…?? Lol.
    Luv ya!

      Hi again, David!

When the house was converted into a motel no original walls were removed but a lot were added. All these have now been removed.

The wall I installed is not replacing a lost original wall. It’s wholly new, and built to be easily removed (hence why I call it a “temporary” wall).

When I purchased the house in 2014 I had planned to use the Octagon Bedroom as a workroom. Earlier this year I realized that I could cut the room in half, with the north end being my workroom, and the south end becoming part of the “Octagon Suite”.

I actually like the room better with the new wall as it reinforces the octagon shape.
