Octagon Progress!
Recently, I did a “sleepy update“, about the bed in the Octagon Bedroom.
Old beds have a common problem: modern mattresses do not fit. However, it turns out that the bed I purchased in January DID accept a modern full size mattress, but not a modern box spring. So, I ordered a custom box spring which…

The regular full-size mattress is not obviously larger than the custom box spring. Cool. It is also sooooo comfortable. I am living for naps!

The color guided my choice of drapery! From Half-Price Drapes.
I am hoping to finish the Octagon Suite in 2021 and Airbnb it. This assumes, of course, that things return to normal in 2021.
Assumes.
For me, during these perilous times, being able to move forward on some positive things, no matter how small in the great scheme of things, keeps me from falling into a pit of despair.
When I purchased the Cross House in 2014, I had no idea of what a salve it would prove beginning in November, 2016. Being able to focus, almost daily, on accomplishing something positive has proved a wondrous healing ointment to my frayed soul.
2026 UPDATE: The Octagon Suite is still not finished. Poo.

Ross, I think I speak for at least 99.44% of your readers when I say that just reading of your accomplishments at the Cross House has been a wondrous healing ointment to OUR frayed souls.
Oh, and congrats on the bed! Rest and good sleep are also healing. As we look to 1/20/21 may we find more and more.
I concur the RA. Your posts are one of the highlights of my days!
So happy to see your post!!! I was worried you had “the Covid”. It is going crazy here too even in rural Illinois.
On a happy note, I love the curtain choice with the beautiful stained glass window! I will be booking that Air BnB as soon as the world ain’t upside down anymore!
P.s. How is the chimney progressing??
A bed! In the Cross House! Wheeee!
Very nice. Nice green. Just in time. Winter is a good season for naps.
The drapes are beautiful, can’t wait to see the entire room put together and those awesome stained glass windows highlighting the whole room. It’s always nice to keep busy doing something that makes you happy in these stressful times.
Woo! Those drapes are beautiful. I will happily iron them for you when I am in Emporia in December. I will pick a mask that matches.
