Releasing Sashes from Ignominious Hibernation

For many many many years the window sashes at the top of the octagon tower have been missing; replaced long ago with simple panels of glass. The missing sashes, thank goodness, did not however ever leave the house. They just sat in the basement for a very long time.

The missing sashes have been reverently released from their ignominious hibernation in the basement, and are currently sitting in the dining room of the Cross House. They have all been reglazed (the white lines at the edge of the glass). Once the glazing dries, which takes friggin’ forever, the sashes will get painted black, and returned to the octagon tower. My excitement at such point? Considerable. Oh baby, yes! (The sashes to the left are resting against the marble wainscoting panels from the first-floor bath.)

i was gonna say – boy i wish i had marble panels to rest things against but as the saying goes “I guess we’re not in Kansas anymore”. Did Dorothy live anywhere near Emporia?

You’re so fortunate that all of those little bits were saved. You’ve got a very special house. It would have driven me crazy to not have the windows in place. I realize that there must be a million other details that need your personal attention though.

What I want to see is a video tour of the house.

Another priceless find ! Congrats ! I agree about an updated video tour. To see all the progress you’ve made so far. We are all jealous of your future home.
