Small Excitements

With all the many changes the library has been through, this base moulding remained in situ all these decades. Not wholly intact but pretty intact. The mantle is just to the right. The floor is weird due to a shelving unit I installed but later removed.

All pretty again. I need to install shoe molding after the floor is finished. Note the elegant Kul grill which I have previously posted about. I love them. But I do not think anybody else does.
When restoring a house it is common to never finish the last 10%. I appreciate the struggle. The last 10%, for reasons I cannot explain, always seems harder than the previous 90%. So, while I am aching to resume work on the cat fence I made myself a promise: finish the damn library first.
Ross is mean.

How about this: When you finish the library, I bring wine and charcuterie, and we will sit on your porch and gossip while the sun slowly sinks into the sunset haze. Are you in?
What a lovely idea Barb! I wish I could join you!
Ross, I’m glad you are so focused and single minded about the library.
Maybe the cat fence will be built after the library is complete?
Soooo true about the last 10%. We have a large collection of them in our 1870s house. 🙂
I always have a mental block about finishing anything home-related but don’t know why. Or maybe I do – it’s my understanding the cPTSD can interfere with committing to living spaces. I used to be unable to even minimally furnish a house or apartment, especially if I didn’t love the place. I literally slept on the floor and ate directly off the kitchen countertop in a few places… And even if I did like a place, I’d leave lots of stuff unfinished, such as not placing a narrow strip of wallpaper Iin a room that was essentially 99% done. When I moved from that house, I left the wallpaper roll and tools for the next inhabitant. I’ve done similar things many times throughout my life. At least I can now pull it together to furnish and decorate my living spaces but it often takes me an unusually long time, and I still have to force myself to complete some simple tasks.
Library is almost done, Ross! Bravo!
