So, Linda Was Curious…
In a previous post Ross Makes A Decision, Linda wrote in, curious about a number of things:
Question. The shower situation. Would you put one in the old housekeepers room that will be your future master bath or just put a temporary quick fix elsewhere in the house? ( Like the basement bath? …is that the only functional toilet in the house at present too?).
And what else needs to be worked on in the round bedroom for your office? Plaster and floor refinishing?
AND how labor and time intensive will the chimney work be when you move back over to the north side? Gosh, I wish I had skills in any of those areas to help you move up your move-in date!
Also, besides the enormity of moving your business to cross house, does your present home present a challenge with loads to move ? i.e. Basement, attic…( In other words, are you a hoarder? Lol!)
Linda then wrote in again:
Boy! That was a nosey bunch of inquiries. I stopped just short of asking you for your social security number and weight! Lol.
Which made me laugh.
It seemed best to answer Linda with a post, as I guess others might have the same questions.
- I will be installing a real shower in the former Housekeeper’s Room on the second floor, SE corner. This will be my bathroom. I want a big shower.
- There are now two toilets in the house. One in the Housekeeper’s Room, and the other in the basement. One of my 2021 goals is to complete the first floor powder room.
- I cannot be working on the Round Bedroom after I move in, as the room will be my office. It needs to be 100% done, including decoration. Computers and printers and dust do not mix.
- It has been too hot to repoint the chimney as the mortar requires temperatures more in the 70s. I have no idea of how long this Heritage Grant line item will take but am confident it will be done before the temps get too low.
- I am not a hoarder. But, I have a 5,000 square foot storage building filled with lights. All this needs to brought to the Cross House and stored in the basement of the house, and the basement of the carriage house. I am dreading the enormity of this. My plan, the same I did for moving my library, is to stuff my mini-van with lights every time I make a trip to the Cross House.
- Alas, it is not prudent of me to give out my social security number.
- My weight? Too much!

I love this post. Thanks Linda for asking!
“7. My weight? Too much!”
But you carry it so well.
Given the amount of work you do, and the amount of sweating you do, it would seem that you are at about the weight you’re supposed to be.
So glad that Linda was curious as those were questions we, your faithful followers, wanted answers to. Yea! It’ll be an exciting day for us all when you finally move into Cross House. I mean Ross, it is time. Enjoy your freedom, take a few day trips to look for treasures and work on whatever you want to, whenever you want to! (And be sure to tell us all about it.)
Perhaps a moving party is in order when you are ready to shuttle the lights from storage to the Cross house. With enough notice, probably many readers within reasonable driving distance would come and help.
On Ross! You and all your followers are so sweet. Thank you for your answers and good to hear that others too were curious. My husband read my questions about 7 hours after I posted them yesterday, and we both agreed that I sounded… kooky. 😵. I have grounded myself from commenting for one week to give you all a break! 🤐
BUT!!! I will still read your posts everyday because it is a highlight of my day to see your progress! 😏
Ross my darling, I appreciate the enormity of moving your stock, given my own miniature business. Knowing how things seems to appear and disappear in the “in work” inventory, might I suggest the app “keep” for your phone? As you move the stock from one location to another, number the item, then the location, and post it in your phone. The keep app will keep that inventory indefinitely, is share-able to your main computer, and is edit-able within your phone. I find it invaluable for locating that one item I seem to have misplaced…about 3 years ago. Given that I am INCREDIBLY busy, infinitely important (in my own eyes), and somewhat hare brained, I’ve found this one little app the most handy of all the ones I have. You might check it out for your own purposes. Of course, it’s free for both systems. Just a thought.
Hahaha very gracious of you to answer, Ross. *Hugs
Good comments above as well.
Not prudent to give out your Social Socially Security #?. Oh puhleeze, LOL!!!!!! Just kidding!
Great comment! Btw.
Oh, c’mon, give it up. We ALL wanna live YOUR life! And wish we there to assist in the work of restoring a house that, yes, may have originally seen ugly, nasty, bitter arguments and fights among family members. Yet, the hardscape is still GORGEOUS!
That’s what I can’t get out of my mind: what WERE the conversations had between those walls??
(I’m soooo addicted to reading ypu) 😁😊😇😚
That list sounds like a good plan. I do have questions, too, but, well, oh, good God, how much can one man take, so I will just wait for my questions to be answered in due course. I am so excited, one would think I was moving to THE Cross House! Ross, move soon!
