Something Wonderfully Unexpected. PART II
I just did a post about how much better the foyer of the Carriage House is, spatially.
Y’all all clamored for visuals.
Enjoy!

The new entry door location on the narrow north wall. I will be replacing the door with one that opens on the left, and has beveled glass.

Before, one entered the foyer and never noticed the lovely staircase. Instead, one’s eye went straight to the expansive living room. I love this unexpected result. The newly relocated large window is far right. This will flood the foyer with light.

Turning to the left just a bit, a new vista is revealed. Oh! The foyer is long! And what is the mysterious room beyond the stairs?

Turning left some more, the living room is still not really visible so one’s eye takes in the ‘fabulous entry’, all part of the circa-1921 renovation and likely the work of the original architect, Charles Squires. I LOVE THIS.

Only after fully stepping into the middle of the foyer, and fully turning left, is the living room then revealed.

Crazy how it looks like a Minnie house.
Original fireplace? And just look at that FLAT ceiling!
My house is 1920s and I just love that period.
I just hope everyone who was fussy about the door placement is sitting, resigned, knowing that Ross and co worked his tail off to decide the best outcome for the HOUSE, not just for everyone’s personal taste.
I cant wait to see more of the carriage house journey.
Before, when you walked into the house, you walked straight into the living room. There wasn’t any suspense, and there definitely wasn’t any drama. Now I can see that the entrance invites you in and tells a story: “Welcome. Here’s a view. And here’s a peek at a hidden space. And here’s an even more welcoming expanse, with a glimpse of more wonders to come.” It’s architecture as story telling, and it’s a fitting entrance to a grand house.
Just wait until the window is in place and the light is flooding in.
This made the most amazing.difference!! I love it!
