All the window sashes on the first floor now have Austerlitz pulls! I now just need 17 for the second floor!

    Awesome Ross!

    Beautiful.

Did the second floor have the same pulls or something not quite as fancy or pricey? I know in some houses the public rooms have all the bling but the more private rooms, like bedrooms, they cut some costs.

The second floor has the same pulls.

Congratulations! Love how you are bringing all the original bling back to the house.

Me, too, Barb! I get ridiculously excited by these small efforts.

it just feels right… unless you feel inclined to take an artist’s brush and darken those screw heads, which would be right-er 😉

LOL. I thought that too. They look too “new”.

    • Ross on September 15, 2021 at 2:47 pm

      Time will resolve that, Chris!

If only modern windows could look that good! 🙂

The Austerlitz pulls look fancy. Whoever selected this design in the Cross House (architect Charles Squires? Brief homeowner Colonel Harrison Corey Cross? His wife Susan Cross? Their son Charles Cross? Someone else?) had an eye for beauty, quality and detail. Hope that Bob Rodak find more Austerlitz hardware to reunite to the Cross House.

Beautiful, those really are fancy. But of course the fancier the better. (Up to a point) Love them.

You can get brass aging liquid and submerse the screw heads. They will darken quickly, then remove and rinse and install. You can save the liquid to reuse.

Yes, that’s what I do with my replacement brass screws too 🙂

Note that I’ve found cleaning them with alcohol is a good idea, as sometimes the screws have residual oils from manufacturing that can be a barrier to the oxidizing solution, leaving patches that don’t darken consistently.

I was watching xo macinna vlogs and she found an amazing store in Los Angles that you might be interested in. You might find your remaining window sashes there. It’s Liz’s antique hardware store. It looked amazing! Take a look at lahardware.com. Good luck!
