The Completion of Colorful!

The stained-glass windows in the parlor have been missing for several months, while they were being restored. The poor parlor wasn’t the same.

Today though! Today though! The windows were reinstated! (This is a very poor quality image; the windows are much brighter in person.)
The parlor stained-glass is the last to be restored, and all enabled by two Heritage Trust Fund grants. This work has entailed 42 windows. Amazing.
When I purchased the house, the stained-glass was in…disturbing condition.
All this work has taken five years.
And I’m damn proud of myself for making sure it got done! This work will give all the stained-glass another century of life.

Ross! You sShould be proud!!
Your amazing work ethic, artistry, creativity and sheer genius has allowed you to be where you are now!
Installing the beautiful, colorful 42 stained glass windows original to the house!
Amazing!!
Should—Ross should be very proud of himself!!
Glorious!! This sounds like a cliche, but they are beautiful, truly beautiful. Amazing that the stainded glass window that crashed to the ground could be restored. Great job.
Like fine jewels, all the stained glass appears.
This isn’t a baby step. This is a huge accomplishment. Congratuations.
These are the Crown Jewels on a beautiful monarch. To use a phrase that has been recently ridiculously overused but rings SO true here, those windows are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. They stun. then the heart begins to race back into action and the eyes go into overdrive over the ravishing perfection. Well done, Scott Hoefer. And a deep bow to the genius who made it all happen. Well done, Ross. This is indeed a moment to be savored.
That is a spectacular achievement, Ross. Congratulations!
Heritage Trust Fund- Kansas Historical Society: hooray!
Hoefer’s Custom Stained Glass: hooray!
Ross MacTaggart: hooray!
What great achievement!
Ross you have done such a wonderful job of bringing these windows back. I admire you and I admire the original artist who designed and made them. I wish that we could know who designed them and what other houses they worked on. Bravo Ross.
We are damn proud of you, too!
Your work on this house is nothing short of extraordinary. When I saw that house had been bought and the condition it was in, I was sure it would be torn down. I’ve never been more glad to be wrong.
How did you know what the pattern was of those that were severely damaged? The one photo with the tree in the center has a new bejeweled central pattern, which is lovely. Were there photos for restoration or was it the result of some kind of research?
That is one of three identical windows: https://restoringross.com/stained-glass-windows-a-miraculous-resurrection/ Lovely, no?
That is so cool! A major milestone achieved! Congratulation, and keep up the good work. Those are such great windows!
This completion of the restoration of these astonishingly beautiful windows alone would be remarkable for most people. You are restoring everything that you can on the Cross House, which is even more amazing. You persist where very few would have given up. Your vision and persistence have seen the completion of the window restoration through. The windows are amazing. I can think of so many superlatives to describe what you have done, but I have to save the rest so that there are enough of them for me to use a different one for each milestone that you make as you achieve them.
I am sure that you are the epitome of the person that Kansas lawmakers imagined when they created the Heritage Trust Fund and its grants.
I owe you great thanks for creating this blog so that I and so many others have been able to share your journey. I look forward to all of your posts, looking for one or more new ones in my e-mail throughout the day. You are one of the only people that I know or know of who I admire. You inspire me every day!
Thank you, yet again,
Stewart.
Bette said, (sang) it best:
Thank you, Stewart! I love Bette!
I went to hit “next post” and there was no button! I’ve finally caught up to the present, and what an exciting ride it’s been! I’m sad I can’t binge read about the Cross house anymore but still excited to see you continue the restoration!
Karyn, did you find the other sections of my blog? Ross
Well done Ross! Raises a glass of wine to you. You inspire me!
“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” ~ Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
With so much destruction happening everywhere, it’s heartening to see that somewhere in Kansas, something beautiful is skillfully and artfully being put back together. Bravo, Ross!
Amazing, beautiful and inspiring. You inspire so many of us. Yes, G-d is in the details.
Congratulations on this huge accomplishment Ross!
Cross House is so fortunate that you found her.
Enjoy the beauty that you have restored. You do make the world a little bit better every day.
Epic day, Ross
Bloody fantastic, well done Ross. From across the pond, I applaud thee.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for being such an excellent steward of the windows! And of the whole house. What you have accomplished is truly wonderful and worthy of all the praise here and then some!!
Forty-two stained glass windows! Congratulations Ross – I hope you feel they were worth all the money, hard work and probably frustration also. They certainly are worth it and I know there are several people “upstairs” smiling down on you and giving you a standing ovation. And may I please add mine….beautiful!
A lasting legacy! Keep doing your baby steps to make the world a better place, Ross.
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!
WOW! WOW! WOW!
Brilliant!!!!!!! both Ross and windows!!!!!!
Me thinking Ross is the most brilliant of all!!!!!!!!
Where’s the window on the left side ? Looks like a board is up there.
It’s wood sash is still being painted, Ruth.
Besides crossing the finish line with the most beautiful, Endless supply of restored, stained glass windows…I thought I heard the splash, slap, roll of paint seeping into the south side 2nd story yoo? I just cant wait much longer to see the progress! I have no fingernails left!
That type-o was supposed to be “too”. Mechanical errors caused by human error and a shot of vodka in a teeny Cosmopolitan.
I would fix your typo, Linda, but your follow-up is too funny.
Congratulations Ross! Have you mentioned the recreated window or do you have any updates? Well done!
42: the answer to life, the universe, and everything
