Let’s hope there is no rot under there as well. They really are in terrible shape. I hope you will be able to reuse at least some of them.

I’m shocked at how intact the wall is after what had you said, 20+ years? Where I am in Western Washington, water will destroy a house in record time. South facades especially…wet weather off the pacific that blows south to north. Unattended that long, it’d be into the framing.
Geez, what a task! I cannot imagine making all the effort to strip the paint, then just leave the bare wood exposed to the elements for, what – years?? Amazing progress you are making, though – as long as you survive the process. That which does not kill us makes us stronger, right?
