The Last Downspouts
On my very long list of Vital Things To Do was to install the last two downspouts. The problem is that I had no 3-inch round spouts.
The other day though the man who installed the new gutters on the Carriage House texted me: “Can you use these?” Attached was an image of 3-inch downspouts. I replied: “Oh, yes!”
A few days ago I arrived at the house and found them on the front porch.
Today, Eric texted. “I have a bit of time. Want me to do anything?”
Why yes. Yes I did.
The spouts are crooked due to how wide the stone base is. And, even if vertical, I hate them as they visually compete with the fabulous columns. But, having them imperfectly in place is VASTLY better than their absence. The columns, which I restored just a few years ago, have already been damaged due to water.
My cunning plan is to reroute the spouts to inside the huge cornice, running mostly horizontally, and then down but attached to the side of the house. I think this will work. But this is not going to happen soon.

Do you have enough pipe for rerouting? If not, can you paint them to minimize their presence until you can?
I find it wonderful that bit by bit, the Cross House is bringing what is needed to itself just when it is needed.
What I find nice about most of your posts here lately is that the pictures nearly always show some fabulously finished area, along with the work in progress. It didn’t used to be that way!
In working on old houses, I find it interesting what people will live with while in progress, as well as what people won’t accept. *grin*. I find it amazing that you have restored TONS of Cross house, and you don’t live in it! I have always lived in my projects, which is always challenging, of course, but for me, NOT living in my project would be something I couldn’t do.
