The Oval Office…copied the Cross House!
I have done several posts about having the circa-1950 oak floors in the parlor and library of the Cross House refinished in…stripes.
Some readers love the look. Some readers are…aghast!
Me? I am incredibly, thrillingly in love with the look. Once everything is in place (area rugs, drapery, furnishings) the floors will be a subtle but all-important accent.
Today, unexpectedly, Susan brought to my attention something which just, ah, floored me!

The famous Oval Office has…striped floors!!!!!!!! I had no idea! The oval office as pictured is largely a 1902 creation. The striped floor dates from President Reagan. President George W. Bush exactly replaced the floor.

President Obama kept the Reagan/Bush floor. Oh…oh…I am SO gonna miss this great man. And…I am SO gonna miss what might have been.
Susan, thanks so much for bringing this to my attention! I love that something kinda crazy I did at the Cross House was also done at the White House!
This bring a total smile to my face.

THAT is awesome…only one day left????
Awesome, indeed! I love it!
And, yes, the last day. Exhale, exhale, exhale…
Gonna miss him too. Saw a clip of him singing “Amazing Grace” and sobbed like an idiot.
What are you going to do with your remaining hours of democracy?
The Amazing Grace clip, when Obama gave the eulogy at the Charleston church shooting service, was really moving.
I, too, cried.
I will miss the intelligence, elegance, and humanity of the Obama family.
The short clip is here.
The full clip (putting the song in context) is here.
You’re very welcome, Ross! (You are much better at finding visual evidence than I was.) Glad to bring a smile to your face today….
Don’t despair, Ross-it will be ok. Have faith in the American ingenuity!
