The Table Is Set…

Before.

Before.

Before.

During. From left: Doug (Osawatomie), Denise and Richard (Cottonwood Falls), Oggie and Linda (Marion), Susi (Kansas City), Sarah (Emporia), and Louis (Lawrence). Phyllis got sick and was unable to attend (she’s married to Louis).

This small group is of vital importance to me as we have one powerful thing in common: We are all intensely interested in politics, on the same page, communicate regularly, and live in Kansas. But, most of the group did not know the others existed. I loved the idea of these kindred spirits meeting.

The evening went even better than I expected and was beautifully summed up by Linda:

I walked up to the Cross House last evening, salad bowl in hand, with trepidation.  One never knows what might be encountered at a social gathering of strangers.  I need not have worried.  I should have trusted Ross to know exactly what he was doing. It was one of the best evenings I have spent in a long time.  Ross gave us a gift of love!  Thank you Ross.  Wishing you all well.

BIG hug, Linda!

We began with champagne in the parlor and I introduced each by telling the story oh how we met, and then invited the person to tell us all a little about them. This seemed to go well, even though several small battles broke out regarding MY memory vs. THIER memory. Luckily, no blood was drawn.

Then, to the dining room. Everybody brought food which was served buffet style from the kitchen. There was…of course…wine.

The evening began at 6PM and went on until the last people left at 10:30PM. I was shocked it was that late. The whole evening had gone so quickly.

As we talked (oddly, we did not much talk about politics) I kept looking around at this small group and my heart filled with happiness and gratitude that I had such intelligent, informed, and generous people in my life.

And while the small group was highly curated, while writing this post my heart, again, filled with happiness and gratitude that I have such intelligent, informed, and generous people who contribute to this blog and to my life.

I am 67 today…fuck…but pretty happy. My life is the best it has ever been.

You know you are in the zone and things are beautiful when hours go by and you don’t even realize time is passing.

You are lucky you have created such a loving and supportive “family”. Moreso that they are close enough you can join together for a shared meal and spend time in such a lovely setting enjoying each other’s company.

And Joyous Natal Day to you! I hope you spend it doing whatever you want and at the end of the day are sated and happy.
