UPDATES. Involving a Citadel!

Note door to right. That was installed as part of the circa-1921 conversion of the Carriage House into an actual House and it led to the porch roof added at the time. I removed the porch in 2014 (it was profoundly rotted, and confused the visual narrative. Oh, the horror!)

Door opened for first time since 2014. Hi, Justin!

Door gone! Pine medicine chest I purchased in 2014 for the Carriage House installed!

Pretty fabulous, right?

After removing the door trim, the original 1921 wallpaper was revealed! Zounds!

See the middle window? See the dark brown patch? That is the original shellacked finish. All the triple window trim will get refinished to match this, as will the new medicine cabinet.

The new tub faucets and hand-held are installed! The tub is, methinks, original to the 1921 conversion, but not in this location.

New chrome drain!

Come, join me, back outside. Y’all remember the north kitchen wall?  The deck was installed hurriedly at the request of Cody. The whole “courtyard” here will be a deck at some point but, for now, the small deck will remain in place. But I hate looking at it. It’s waaaaaaay to cheap suburban-looking. Oh, the horror.

SQUEE!!!!!!!! I had the thought to cover over the whole with 1×6 deck boards.Quick! Easy! I can also re-use the boards when the ‘real’ deck is installed! I love this aspect! The results though look like a citadel! And this makes me smile. Compare to…

…last April.

I like the stripes but not the color.

That medicine cabinet is to die for. I have never seen anything like it. Once the window trim is stripped it is going to be awesome. Now, are you going to leave the door trim on the outside of the turret or remove it all and close up the “door” that is now the back of the medicine cabinet?

That wall of deck boards needs something. Maybe hand some pot hooks on the top to hold pots with trailing somethings like Petunia or Nasturtiums? Hanging window boxes from the top maybe. Cheap color to break it up and hide it a bit.

That medicine cabinet (the mirrored section) looks very like the one at my parents home, which we both thought *might* be a Squires design. It will look so good with the refinished woodwork. I love how the room is coming together.

I like the medicine cabinet, lots of storage in that one. We have a beautiful antique medicine cabinet, but not very much space in it. I agree with mlaiuppa, the deck boards would look nice with a window box of hanging flowers. You’ve gotten a lot done in a short amount of time. Squeee!

Been said before perhaps, but that medicine cabinet is amazing. I do like the deck cladding, quite a creative solution to an annoying problem. That tub’s hardware is also to die for.

Love what you’re doing with the house and look forward to each new post. I could really use a new faucet for my claw foot tub and I was wondering if your tub faucet is an original? A reproduction? If it is a reproduction, what is the source? Thanks and keep up the excellent work.
