Ross you always find a way to bring it home…and bring me to tears!

I, too, fear, fear, fear, losing our insurance. My 30 year old sons’ coverage is also thru Obamacare. He is a Type 1 diabetic….insulin dependant…and has no insurance coverage through his employer. The Medical clinic that I used to work for STILL does NOT offer insurance for their employees!! Yes. I worked for a group of physicians who were too stingy to offer insurance to the 50 or so employees they employed.

So we all have policies because of Obamacare. Thank God.

Speaking of God. I pray for this election multiple times every day. God is omnipotent and omnipresent …. but He has given us free will too ( which explains the Trump cult in America).

I pray for Good to overcome Evil.

    And I vote.

So, my husband just changed jobs starting in a new career in September. While the new job is perfect for him and already making him much happier, which make me much happier too. He loves his new job, but….

Before this change, we had been privileged for the past several years to have excellent insurance without a lot of hassle. When I was diagnosed with cancer last year, insurance handled everything without issue. My medical bills for last year (including chemo, radiation, major surgery, and ten days in the ICU) were $280,000, leaving us to only come up with my $2,000 annual out-of-pocket max (and $93 for the television in my hospital room).

Fortunately, this year has been much less expensive for our insurance company, by June, I had hit my annual out-of-pocket max again, meaning the rest of this year would have been covered at 100%.

Of course, with the change in jobs came a change in insurance, and it is nowhere near as good. This means we are back to zero and starting over for the remainder of the year. The new insurance is twice as expensive, and our out-of-pocket is now $6k each. As a result, I am forced to delay tests and appointments until January, and getting our prescriptions filled has turned into a nightmare as everything requires a pre-authorization and jumping through multiple hoops.

This would not be an issue if we were citizens of the EU, or Canada, or Australia, or South Korea, or so many other industrialized countries. We are privileged in that we can manage to pay the medical bills, but so many are not, and are at risk of losing everything, especially now with Covid. It is an absolute crime how the average American is being left out in the cold while corporate greed reigns king.

Thanks for reading my rant, and Ross, thank you for your political posts.
If they change even one mind, it is worth all the effort. ❤️❤️

That’s awful Devyn. Insurance is such a horrible, twisted mess. I won’t even say “scam”, because sometimes it DOES work. Other times, you have to tread the fine line of legalese, and their rules, in order to try to get reimbursed (if possible), possibly not get the exact medicine you need because, you know, the formulary, or like in your case, put things off until the start of the next insurance year. Thinking good thoughts for you. Thinking good thoughts for everyone who has no insurance, or poor insurance. No one should be in debt up to their eyeballs for the “crime” of getting sick.
