Wanna Meet My Whirlpools?

With my plan to resume the kitchen this year, the new gas range arrived today. It will later have an extractor fan over.

And the new fridge. It JUST fits into the 1894 brick range niche. This image amuses me. The fridge is so pristine yet is surrounded by total deriliction.
This is year #12 of my owning the Cross House and it feels like a miracle to at long last have some decent appliances in the kitchen.
I put them on a 12-month payment plan!
The two images are deceiving as they give the indication that the kitchen will be sleek and modern.
It will not be.
In contrast to the sleek appliances will be a walnut butcher block island counter, restored wainscoting and 1894 doors, a recreated dumbwaiter and laundry chute, a working annunciator, period-correct gas/electric light fixtures (already installed), a period-correct soapstone sink, and the original wall/ceiling color recreated.
The room will also be true to an 1894 kitchen: an island layout, rather than a modern fitted layout.

Sweet. You’re lucky you have the space for a big fridge and the double doors. I have the width but not the height. I would have to take out a cabinet and I have so little cabinet space as it is I am loathe to do it. So I am limited to I think 63-64 inches tall.
The range fits perfectly as you knew it would.
Have you decided on what hood yet?
Synchrony Home lets you pay interest free over 12 months but it has to be from a dealer or store that accepts them. There is also a card called CareCredit that does the same for other things. My vet accepts it so that is what I use for the large vet bills. For Diana’s dental surgery it was interest free for 18 months.
Ross, the sense of spaciousness you have in the kitchen is quite lovely. Best wishes for future happy times preparing meals for dinner parties. Watching the kitties frolic in their yard while you cook will make every meal a special event.
Thank you, Anne Marie.
What color was the original wall and ceiling? And I’ve forgotten, what is the lil room near the stove? Pantry?
Hi,Wendy.
I did a post about the original kitchen finishes.
Yes, the little room is the main pantry. I also (insert bragging tone) have a Butler’s pantry.
Look great! But it is humorous!
You’ve been working on the carriage house bathroom, so I was expecting to “meet” a jetted tub. Ha! But kitchen appliances are good, too.
Same, was surprised to see a gas range instead of a soaker tub. Hahaha
Once the kitchen is done, I think the contrast of the sleek-and-new with the vintage and restored elements will be stunning. And I never chimed in when you first posted it, but I personally LOVE that fabulous cut crystal vase ceiling fixture over the dining area!
Excited to see what you do with the brick!
Whoot, whoot!!! Super excited to see vital bits in place for your eventual move in!! Keep up the marvelous work Ross!!!
