YE GODS! The Cat Fence (drum roll, please) Resumes!

In late 2018, I began the planning for the cat fence, and work began in early 2019.

Many of you generously donated to the cause, and I did multiple posts updating the project and thanking everybody who donated.

Then…it all just stopped. It had to, as pressing Heritage Trust work overtook all else for the remainder of 2019 and 2020. I never even did a final post on the most recent donations.

Bad Ross.

But…but…

…the cat fence project has resumed! The left ‘container’ was finished in early 2019. And now, two friggin’ years later, the right ‘container’ is now almost done (one side is still brown tarp in the image). In 2019, it would have seemed impossible that TWO YEARS would elapse before the project continued.

Today…SQUEE…Mark II lumber delivered all the materials to build the East Yard. The size of the check made me weak.

When the East Yard fence is finished, work will begin on the Corner Yard. When this is completed, the two ‘containers’ will vanish from view.

The Corner Yard fencing will be unique. The outer layer will be large-scale lattice, which Justin and I will build. Behind this will be translucent plastic corrugated panels, backlighted by LED lighting strips. This means that, at night, the lattice fence will glow mysteriously. And the plastic panels mean that my cats cannot climb the fence, while also offering privacy.

I am giddy with excitement.

Soon, I will do a donation update so y’all that did not get listed in 2019 will be, belatedly, thanked.

I was so happy to donate because I’m dying for you to move into the house with all your wonderful kitties. They’ll have such a great, unique space to play! Terribly excited to see it.

Ross, did you ever do a post on the tree plan for the property? There must be a tree coverage plan for the backyard! (I would hate the cats to overheat)

Worry not, AH! The east ‘container’ will have a roof and the cats can go there for protection.

They will also have a winter house.

      And cable TV.

    Hi Ross,
I haven’t posted before but I spent about a week reading your entire blog. I love old houses and love what you’re doing. I thought you might be interested in this fixture that is on auction. It appears to be a gas/ electric light which might be the right period for your house. Lot 366. https://lutherauctions.hibid.com/catalog/274522/04-12-2021—online-estates-auction/?cpage=4&ipp=100

So those big box cars will be removed? Or just “removed” from our sight by the lattice and translucent panel camouflage?

      The latter, Linda!
