Today, Senate Republicans…all of them…blocked a bill to raise the federal debt ceiling.

Two things to note:

  1. This is not about future spending. This is about current debt. Which Republicans massively increased while Trump was in office.
  2. Republicans raised the debt ceiling THREE TIMES while Trump was in office.

The governor of South Dakota’s daughter wanted to be a state real estate appraiser or some such and her supervisor wasn’t going to approve her application, saying she hadn’t demonstrated she was qualified. Well, the governor called in the three state employees involved in the chain of command and had a meeting with them with the daughter present. Daughter got her license approved and one of the employees was asked to resign and when she didn’t was fired. She filed an age discrimination lawsuit which was settled with $200,000 and an NDA.

This is how the Republican Party works. They’re fascists.

They’re cruel, sadistic. Their voter suppression laws prove they are also racists and bigots. They’re hypocrites; “my body my choice” when it comes to mask mandates and Covid vaccinations but “your body my religion” when it comes to a woman’s uterus.

No one can excuse their votes by saying they vote Republican because they are fiscally conservative (oh, the hypocrisy) or because of their positions on whatever. No more single issue shit excuse. You are all in. If you support them you support ALL of their policies.

Democrats are the party that are trying to help and support the American people. Republicans seem to be the party of obstruction, making sure the American people get no help in their struggles, struggles which in many cases are caused by the Republicans.

It’s a shame we don’t have a stronger, nastier word than hypocrite.

I still don’t understand how people can vote against their own best interests. But then, many are still supporting a serial adulterer and sexual predator who lies, cheats, steals, has had multiple bankruptcies and is facing another and is urging them to avoid vaccination and wearing masks in favor of horse dewormer and aquarium cleaner. I would say they get what they deserve, but unfortunately they are punishing the rest of us with their votes, their hate and their behavior.

I couldn’t have said this better myself! And yes, the people that vote for them cannot say they don’t espouse this behavior – these values; since they’ve put their name down as a supporter of it.
It’s a shame that these people are dragging us to the bottom as a society. They can pretend all they want, but no amount of apple pie for the church bazaar is going to hide who they really are anymore.

Mlaiuppa, I agree with everything you wrote save one thing.

You stated: “Republicans seem to be the party of obstruction…”

I would amend that to: Republicans ARE the party of obstruction…

I’ve done numerous posts detailing how much the Democratic party has done to help the American people. And I’ve asked my Republicans readers to forward policies created by their party which help American people, as I can’t think of a single thing.

I’ve been asking this for several years…and have yet to receive a reply.

It’s also now 100% clear that the Republican party is hell-bent on destroying democracy. They are actively working to transform our country into a fascist state. And they want the Handmaid’s Tale to go from fact to fiction.

I stand corrected. It didn’t used to be that way. Both parties used to be able to point to things they accomplished that aided and protected the lives of the American people. But as the years pass the Republican Party has to reach back further and further into history to support that claim. I think things really started to erode with Saint Ronnie. Even (hawk spit) Nixon accomplished some good. but in the last 30+ years I am hard pressed to think of anything positive for the public that the Republican party instigated. Sure they’ve voted for a few bipartisan things but it was like pulling teeth. Corporations, sure. They’ve benefitted them immensely because what benefits corporations benefits stockholders who are by and large wealthy white men. Not all. Even I own a few stocks.

While you can name presidential administrations it has been a long game of powers behind the throne. I don’t think Karl Rove is given enough credit for eroding democracy in this nation. Of course, he is now greatly overshadowed by The Former Guy who not only sought to destroy our government, with the help and encouragement of his advisors, but encouraged the actual erosion of the soul of the public. He encouraged hatred, racism, bigotry, misogyny and the list goes on. We are still suffering from it. Look up fiscally irresponsible in the dictionary and you’ll find his picture. We would not have such a large block of the public ranting about vaccines and raving about masks if it weren’t for that lazy, stupid, malignant narcissist. And he would not have been nominated let alone won if it had not been for a Republican Party that cared more about winning and stacking the Supreme Court than upholding Democracy and the Constitution of the United States. For that, all the blame can be laid at Mitch McConnell’s feet. As well as all of the obstruction since Barack Obama was elected and every time there has been a Democratic majority in either house.

Totally agree with Ross and you miauppa. Very well put. It kills me that the extreme right co-opted a 1970s women’s rights movement phrase. “ my body, my choice” and I doubt they know the historical significance.

I am a die-hard Democrat, but I think we need to use more clear messaging to present our agenda for a social safety net, climate and infrastructure concerns and to the voting public.

I totally agree, mlaiuppa, with everything you said. I am trying (without success) to wrap my head around understanding my son-in-law’s sister and brother who will quit their jobs rather than get vaccinated (she’s a nurse! and he works for USPS). The Republicans have no interest in bi-partisanship or doing the right thing (with possibly a few – very few – exceptions, such as Liz Cheney). The Democrats need to get together and get something done NOW while they still can. This is not the country I grew up in. I am sick just thinking about it.

Karen, I am a regional manager for the USPS and there is no mandate requiring employees to get the vaccine, and I honestly doubt that it will come to that. I may be wrong, but I really don’t think that it will. Some employees are on the bandwagon, trumpeting their determination to not get the shot; it is the same self-inflicted victimization that we see every day on social media (and T-shirts, LOL) where people seem to want someone to try to force them into something so they can prove something in return. One of my employees was mouthing off after a recent meeting (didn’t think that I could hear him) to some coworkers about how he would gladly quit his job before he would bow to Biden and take the shot; I walked out of my office with a resignation form, handed it to him in front of everyone, and asked him to sign and date it. He stammered, and pointed out that it hadn’t come to that yet; I agreed, but told him that I did not want it to come to that and that I wanted to spare him the experience and would he please sign and date it? His coworkers snickered and walked away when he handed it back and told me that he would wait and see…

I have to say that was brilliant! 🙂

All so true. I often wonder what they think when they get up in the morning and look into the mirror. Also, in this age of media, they seem to forget what they said 1 week and say something else the next; don’t they realize how stupid they look? And I just learned my 88 yr old rep senator is running again! I e-mailed both the rep senators after they voted no on the Jan 6 commission; only 1 responded to my specific arguments; still tried to justify it. I’m not someone who likes conflict of any kind, but I just couldn’t take it anymore and I was nicely harsh! The majority have no conscience. I fear it is only going to get worse. The US is the laughing stock of the world. 🙁

From what I have seen, USPS employees are exempt from the mandate for federal employees to be vaccinated, but they must do so under the mandate for businesses with more than 100 employees: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/09/16/fact-check-postal-workers-follow-osha-vaccine-guidance/8295566002/ and https://www.postaltimes.com/postalnews/yes-usps-workers-will-be-required-to-get-vaccinated-but-not-under-executive-order-for-federal-workers/.
