Amy Coney Barrett is Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court.

This is curious for two reasons:

  1. In 2016, Barrett gave an interview where she stated that it was wrong for Obama to nominate anybody for the court in his last year in office, mimicking a new “rule” made up by Mitch McConnell.
  2. In the same interview, Barrett stated that Obama’s nominee (a moderate Liberal) would dramatically reshape the court as he would be replacing arch-Conservative Antonin Scalia, and that this was wrong.

Yet, in 2020, Barrett has done a 180-degree spin.

Gee, another hypocritical Republican. I am just shocked. Shocked!

Here is what I would like a Democrat to ask of Barrett during the upcoming hearings:

Mitch McConnell refused to even consider Obama’s nominee because he made up a rule saying that nominees couldn’t be considered during an election year. Yet, less than two months before an election, here we are considering you. So, why are you willingly participating in a corrupt and undemocratic process? Because, to me, that speaks volumes about your character…or the total lack thereof. And this, alone, disqualifies you for this important and vital position.

I’m with you but I’d end it with, “…yet here we are considering you.” This focuses on the facts and hypocrisy without the incendiary political comment which will only antagonize his base and distract from the issue.

      Thank you, Jane.

Even by just focusing on the facts and hypocrisy, Trump’s base will be antagonized. Would you agree?

I added the later sentences to point out the obvious lack of character revealed by Barrett in her willingness to participate. I think it’s important TO point this out. I, too, think this is VITAL to the issue rather than a distraction.

Somebody wrote that they would also like Barrett to be asked:

“You voiced your opinion on this issue when a Democrat was President, then changed your opinion when a Republican was President. How often do you flip-flop on important issues? Doesn’t this reflect on your honesty and character? Maybe you will change your opinions on everything you are being questioned about today. Maybe you are saying things that you believe will get you seated on the court, and will change your opinions when you have to make real decisions.”

Ross, you should’ve expected this. Surely you know that “rules” only apply to Democrats. Goodbye RBG, and the womens’ right to choose what decisions she makes for her own life. Goodbye, Affordable Care Act, which has always been a mess, but it’s all we had, and the Republicans were responsible for the mess it became. Four more years of tRump, and we will be the United States of Russia, China, or North Korea, pick one.

    • Ross on September 28, 2020 at 2:05 pm

EJ, this was 100% expected by me.

Agree, agree, agree. Such hypocrisy. But worse so much is on the line.

We must defeat Trump and then Democrats can add to the court. Of course Trump has nominated her so quickly because he expects a battle over the election outcome.

I am more worried about the election and the next few months in general now than I am about covid. I am sure that Trump is going to declare victory if the red states polls are higher on election night and call it rigged if Biden wins once all the ballots are counted.

I am worried about vigilantes in the streets and general mayhem.

And will there be an October surprise? Will the NYT tax findings have any influence? Talk about hypocrisy-Trump is the Hypocrite -in-Chief.

We must bring in a Biden landslide!

Keep speaking up Ross. We all must.

I sure hope during her confirmation hearing the Congress asks her if she has sworn an oath of loyalty to Trump which is intended to supersede her oath to the constitution. (See the James Comey testimony https://www.vox.com/2017/6/7/15758412/comey-testimony-trump-loyalty).

Also, shouldn’t any Supreme Court Justice recuse themselves if a case comes before them concerning the President of the United States that appointed them, especially with the intention of securing any favorable/unfavorable challenge, the President has to stay in office?

    • Brendan on September 28, 2020 at 1:06 pm

Exactly Blair. I think a second question to be asked is “If you are approved, will you be recusing yourself if it comes before the Supreme Court to settle a questioned election result?”

      • Ross on September 28, 2020 at 2:06 pm

Brendan, I wouldn’t believe her no matter what she said. As her actions and words have shown.

    LIke somebody said – “BIden’s a Catholic. Amy Coney Barrett’s a lunatic”.

    • Karen Spencer on September 30, 2020 at 6:18 pm

Thank you for that statement. Agree!

  6. Terri on September 28, 2020 at 2:23 pm

I agree with everyone so far. I don’t know how this is even possible!

I remember a time in this country when even the dishonest people in Washington at least TRIED to appear upstanding and beyond reproach… and while that may have been hypocritical, I prefer it to the blatant scheming, lying, cheating, and in-your-face racism and prejudice that is so widely accepted by so many in America today. What’s the difference? The difference is that there were still ramifications to dishonesty if you were found out; if a politician were caught lying or cheating or evading taxes or any number of immoral or illegal activities, it was almost always career suicide, and even his/her own party would hasten to disown and distance themselves from the sinner for fear of being tainted by scandal. In just three short years (but don’t they seem like an eternity), nearly all of the consequences have seemingly vanished. Thanks largely to Trump and his minions, nothing shocks anyone anymore; more disturbing is the number of conservative, blue-collar, self-proclaimed evangelicals who actually defend and admire their antics! This deal over his tax returns has already generated so many social media posts, shared by even elderly,, working-class grandparents, stating that his tax avoidance is just proof of his superior intelligence business abilities! All it proves is that not only is he a crook and a con man, but that he can’t even steal and embezzle successfully! I am so fed up with this; I also fear that, having thrown away our self-imposed standards of decent behavior, we will never get back to the place and time when someone who behaves like Trump is scorned, ridiculed, and hopefully prosecuted… I hope he rots in prison.

  8. Terri on September 30, 2020 at 1:42 pm

I am so afraid for MY country. I totally agree Mike. Things have changed (for the worse) in this country. I’m praying my butt off! And voting in Nov.

    • Mike on September 30, 2020 at 5:03 pm

      Me too, Terri…

  9. Paul on September 30, 2020 at 3:22 pm

Any Trump for President signs come down in your area, after that petulant, man-child debate performance?

    • Mike on October 1, 2020 at 10:22 am

No, but someone stole our Biden sign last night… the second one to disappear. I have more, so #3 was out by 6:00AM this morning. I thought about buying a trail camera to catch them, but made another donation to the Biden-Harris campaign fund instead. November 3rd can’t come soon enough…

  10. Terri on October 1, 2020 at 1:23 pm

My neighbors across the street from me don’t have their sign out anymore. I don’t think they took it down due to a pro trump post on their Facebook page right after the debate. I think the wind may have finally blown it away. I hope it stays gone!
