2023 YEAR END UPDATE: The House
A year ago I thought:
- I would finish the Library in early 2023.
- I would finish the cat fence summer, 2023.
- I would move into the Cross House at the end of 2023.
Oopsie. Only one of these three wishes happened.
In late April I was hit with a Violation Order by the city demanding (not requesting) that I get the exterior of the Carriage House in good order. Well, it did look really…
At first I thought the work would take three months. Thus, I could still finish the fence and still move in.
Oopsie, again.
I finished this week.
Upon realizing how much larger the project would prove, in May I wrote about my updated plans. In short:
- Spend 2024 finishing the inside of the Carriage House so it can rented to provide income. I should have done this way back in 2014 and I refuse to delay, yet again, the work.
- Spend 2025 mostly working on my own house to get it sold.
- Move into the Cross House in 2026.
Methinks 2024 will be a lot of fun as the interior of the Carriage House gets finished and decorated.
Ditto for 2025.
The Library did get done, and the results are glorious.

In June was able to…at long last…purchase an annunciator.

And it is not just any ol’ annunciator but it is by ROSS and made the same year of the Cross House. Can you hear the Twilight Zone song?

In July, Suzi wholly surprised me with lots-o-people. (I had a lot of fun.)

In May, Clay and Cindy came by for a tour.

In September (left to right) Vicki, Brenda, Karen, and Charla came by for a tour.

In September, Rebecca came for a tour of the Cross House, all the way from Baltimore. We had a great time. At the end of the tour her son, Teb, joined her for a photo shoot.

In November, Pam (left) reached out with a remarkable gift in memory of her late wife, Clara, which I wrote about here. Pam and Clara, about 2003.

And a happy new year to all of you! Your comments are my favorite part of this blog thingy. BIG hug!

Happy New Year, Ross!
May you be filled with continued inspiration as much as you continue to fulfill ours!
Happy New Year, Ross!
Another year of incredible achievements!
Now, see? You have accomplished some in the Cross House. Not everything on your list but just make a new list.
You may surprise yourself and get the inside of the Carriage House up to snuff sooner than you expect now that you are all motivated and getting healthier.
That cat fence will go quickly. Maybe as a change of pace break.
You might even get a little done on your own house in between things.
You’ll be baby-stepping all over.
Happy New Year!
