A Meow Which Changed Everything

Arriving today at the carriage house, I knocked on the door to let Cody know I was there. I have never previously knocked on the door.

Cody let me in.

In the kitchen was something additionally new and unexpected: a small antique table and two chairs.

With Cody now moved in, the house begins a life independent of me. This is both exciting and unsettling.

We both sat and talked. After ten minutes something caught the corner of my eye. I about jumped out of my seat.

To my right, behind me, was…a cat. A most gorgeous cat!

My smile was immediate. My heart sang.

A cat in the house! A cat in the house! And all at once, the poor carriage house, for so long empty and abused, was now truly alive. A cat in the house!

(There are, actually, two cats, but Cody’s other cat has, so far, proved elusive.)

As I reached down and petted the kitty, my delight was great. When kitty meowed, my eyes watered up.

For, in that moment, I understood that the carriage house was no longer just about plumbing and wiring and carpentry and tiling and sheetrock and chimneys being demolished. No longer. For, all of a sudden, there was life in the house.

Hahaha well Mark, we shall let our imagination provide the picture of this gorgeous cat. My mind’s version is a long-haired, gray variety.

The carriage house is no longer just a house, but a home….. with two cats in the yard. And Cody will make it cozier with his antiques that he brings.

Houses love life. They need to shelter life. I think the Carriage House being lived in, you are going to notice there is a difference. It will be subtle and you won’t be able to identify exactly what it is, but it will be there. It’s life. It’s body warmth and breathing. The house will be happy.

I’m afraid to suggest this, because it was a cat related tear jerker for me. Netflix has a new movie called “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain”. I think you will appreciate it. I certainly did.

Sweet. It’s on Prime Video for now.

That was a perfectly lovely movie. I’ve seen vintage post cards with cats like his art.

You could say Louis Wain was responsible for making the cat a house pet equal to a dog at the time.

Cats, of course, were once worshipped as gods. They have never forgotten that.
