The Cross House

A Leafy Timeline

In this 2008 image, you can see three TINY trees planted between the sidewalk and Sixth Avenue.

Last year I had the two trees to the right severely pruned. Each had developed Y-shaped trunks, and these would have split in two during an ice storm. After pruning, the trees looked kinda lopsided but this year they are looking good!

The trees were planted by the previous owner, Bob Rodak. Thanks, Bob!

  1. Hi Ross,
I love that you pruned the trees- such an easy thing do that can significantly add to their health (and beauty!) I have always wanted to ask if you planned on re-creating any period-appropriate landscaping for the Cross property? I’ve been trying to guess the street trees in the original photo, elm perhaps? I know they have created a ‘princeton’ elm variety that is not suceptable to disease. Also, knowing that Victorian landscaping around houses was usually minimal, but also that they loved to feature exotic plants…surely this would add to the overall narrative of the house, esp. on a prominent corner lot. Keep up all your great work!
