Adding More Vivacity

Yesterday.

Yesterday I:

  • Painted the background of one tower swag in color #5.
  • Ditto for the scroll backgrounds on the brooch (the triple upper windows).
  • Painted black the arched trim above the triple widows. This helps to break up all the green.
  • Painted a black pinstripe just below the scrollwork under the dining room windows.

The background color under the dining windows is color #5. This is the same color on the brooch and the swag panel. But the latter two look distinctly lighter. I have no explanation for this, and prefer the darker/golden “version”. I am frustrated by this unexpected development…and am pondering solutions.

Still to do:

  • The “eye” needs some attention.
  • The single column capital and base will be colored #5.
  • The porch will get a black pinstripe.
  • The porch railing will be installed (soon!) and with color #5 highlights.
  • The porch lattice will be installed (soon!) and with color #5 highlights.
  • I have a crazy idea for the scrollwork above the big dining room window.

Thank you for the added color to the 3 window brooch. I absolutely love the addition of #5 color to all of the areas on the house. I think it really shows off all the beautiful details and elegance of the old gal! She was made to shine and you are making that all possible for her!

Looks really nice. Have you considered painting the downspouts to match the back grounds? The lower parts could be white as the piers are, the upper and lower areas near the new column colors could be added to make the downspouts less visible. Just an idea I had. I hope to see more wonderful additions to your paint. It looks great.

“I have no explanation for this”
The paint appears to have some gloss to it. It might be that the higher examples are reflecting sky light (which would be bluish and would gray out the color), and the lower example is reflecting the light you are used to seeing in.

It looks even more awesome in person!

Today I reinstalled the toilet in my half bath in my continued efforts to one day actually finish my condo’s remodel. Also, though it offered additional seating, I was tired of having the darn thing in my living room.

The entire time I worked to install it, i told myself that if Ross could climb up the scary ladder, I could wax ring a potty! First time, but I did it! Keep up the great work, good man! It’s pulling me out of reno haze and causing me to get motivated. 🙂

Beautiful work! Is it possible that #5 under DR window has a hint of the dk green color. Technically the dk green is painted onto trim & appears background is finely added around it. Maybe add extra coat unde4 DR window. Also I concur with others that the light is brighter on the brooch & swag. I think the combo if this makes under DR window seem more golden. The end result of the work is sensational! Barb Sanford is right—in person is even more vibrant!!! Unbelievably beautiful!!!

Also the lighter version of #5 seems to be closer to gable. I really think there are slight pigments that were incorporated under DR window. I may be off base but other than settling and mixture not as evenly distributed after setting for a bit. I assume stirring well & probably seems like a dumb comment but maybe the paint needs to be stirred more so than with others as it might separate in the heat?? I am probably way out there but only explanation I could come up with.

She is beautiful! I’m thinking, perhaps #5 on the brooch and the swag panel would look the same on a cloudy day? It’s curious, When we first saw #5 it appeared(to me) to be that same lighter colour, but when you painted under the dining windows and on the columns, it became a rich almost golden. It seems to like changing appearance based on where it is applied, or perhaps how it is painted on. It could be like others have said, the lighting and reflection, or the proximity of the green near it, a trick of light and contrast.

It makes me think of illusions, where there are only 3 colours in the image, but it appears as if there are 4, like this one.

Upon further study of the image, it appears to look the same as the tower swag. Does looking at #5 under the dining windows appear the same when viewed from a similar, narrower angle, but on the ground?

At first I couldn’t distinguish color #5 from the wall color, and thought you were a little crazy for choosing a color so similar. But now I see the light.. #5 highlights certain features, makes them ‘pop’, in a way that isn’t overstated. You’ve avoided the painted lady look while adding another color. I didn’t think it could be done. But what do I know about color? Guess that is why I live in a beige McMansion. It looks beautiful Ross. Great job.
