An Unexpected…Departure

Last week I did a post about the discovery of a bat, a friggin’ bat, nestled up inside the trim of the Cross House.
HOW was I to paint that area?
I fretted about this and worried about this and even had a nightmare about this (envisioning thousands of bats swarming upon me).
YIKES!
Ever since discovering the bat I have carefully peeked numerous times into its, ah, chamber of daytime rest, and there it was. Every damn time.
Having zero idea of how to entice the bat in taking a vacation to, say, France, thus allowing me to paint, I realized that I had no choice but to get into a Tyvek suit, with a face mask, hard hat, and leather gloves, in order to paint adjacent to the bat cave.
Sigh.
Sigh.
Sigh.
Today, I finished installing the latest level of the scaffolding. Then I carefully peeked into the bat cave.
But there be no bat.
I repeat: no bat.
I rejoiced: no bat!
I danced a happy jig: NO BAT!!!!!!!!
Where had the bat gone? Would the bat be back?
Before these questions could be, or would be, answered, I, with alacrity, slathered paint stripper onto the curved stamped-tin decorative panel adjacent to the vacated bat cave. When I was done…

Maybe he decided he couldn’t live in a country with Trump for a president! Love the work you are doing. Can’t imagine how exhausting it must be with the heat and humidity you are dealing with! (Not to mention your age since I am within a week or two of your age.)
I might….join the bat in France.
The last two weeks have actually been quite nice here in Kansas. Quite mild. And I am THRILLED!
Um, is it possible you sent him to the Emporia Gazette? “Bat terrorizes Gazette newsroom” … actual news article in the Emporia Gazette this week. Coincidence? Me thinks not…
So…I was wrong about France!
Fabulous! Thanks!
Once you’re done, you should let Mr. Batty come back. They are fabulous for eating bugs and especially mosquitoes. I’ve put a bat house up in my back yard to encourage them to come roost.
Maybe Cross House needs a bat house in the backyard to avoid roosting in the eaves:-)
That is an excellent idea. There is no doubt that females will take up residence to raise their young. And if they find a tiny opening, they will take up residence. I think you should seriously consider the bat house, I second the motion.
