Before. After.

Another fixture from the attic of my vast storage vaults. It was intact save missing shades. Which is a kinda biggie.

It was also steel. Most such fixtures are brass. By being steel, there was light rust all over. It also was never an expensive fixture, which most of my fixtures are. And so, for all these reasons, it sat, abandoned, in the attic for over 15 years. But, in my mission to clear the attic (lights in storage make no money for me) I hauled out the forlorn, dreary dear. It looks better now. Wanna see? Scroll down…

Golly. Who knew?

I was able to recreate the original coppery finish.

And found ideal shades, I think.

The crystal ball also cleaned up well.

I want everyone of the lights you show. They are just exquisite!

Perfect shades. Now that is the kind of light that would be in my house. A bit later than 1922 but my house is modest in what was a modest neighborhood and even though it is large (added on in 1949) what little I found of it’s original build is modest. The door knobs and back plates were not brass but brass plated (and beyond polishing and saving). A doorknob or two were dented. So I replaced them all. None of the original light fixtures remained except the kitchen and hallway and they are all 1949 or later. The one original I had that was in the garage was damaged when the house was tented as it had five arms and five shades when I did my walk through (and I wanted to take it with me for safekeeping but the realtor suggested no) and when I took possession one arm and one shade were broken. It was pot metal and no way to repair it, nor match the lovely custard shades.

That fixture reminds me of it.

I especially love the clear glass rim on the shades that picks up the central glass element.

I guess clearing the “Light” attic and getting fixtures listed will also be part of your Project 2025-2028.
