Before. After.

Another attic haul-out. Really sad looking. But all the parts were there. To my great surprise I discovered that the body is cast brass! And the original polychrome was revealed under filth.

Zounds.

.

And swags everywhere. on the body, on the socket rings, on the…

…stem, and on the…

…canopy! FABULOUS!

    Just lovely.

I love these old fixtures. I love the detail and design that went into them. Just endless possibilities.

While there is some attraction to sleek, clean and modern, they just don’t thrill me as much as these vintage fixtures.

Plus I love how you are saving what others perceive as “trash” from the landfill and giving them a new and useful life in another house.

Sleek and modern has its place but it’s creativity is usually very limited. Sometimes it sucks Creativity out of the room. This piece is graceful, beautiful and even more thought provoking. And it takes a special creative genius to recognize and bring this beauty back to life.

This light fixture is a beauty, you won’t have a problem selling this one.

Of course, the following is going to be a burden to your already overstretched time budgeting.
But I see this lovely lamp laying separated and unloved, then restored and I think this is in the hands of a person who has knowledge of the item, it’s separate parts are able to be inspected before assembly and it is only going to be rarer in the future. The perfect time to document it!
3d scanners are within the reach of a normal person these days. There are a ton of videos out there talking about their use. I liked superfastmatt’s but whatever works for you.
Sorry to add yet another layer to your process, but it could be valuable to future historians.
