Before. After.

I had this  in my “attic” storage for like 20 years because it was missing a ceiling canopy. Then I found a ceiling canopy which had the same urn/swag motif featured on the chandelier and snapped it up. The canopy though had two hooks for chains. I removed both and infilled the holes (this is not obvious). The canopy, like the chandelier, is stamped brass but without a silver-plate finish. So I did a burnished silver finish, and then rubbed this to expose some of the brass. The same aspect is evident on the chandelier. The canopy, IMO, looks pretty good but its silver “tone” is different than the silver “tone” on the chandelier. This isn’t readily obvious (see images), and the silver chain is also a different tone (it’s nickel-plated), and nor is the chain flourish (the loop the chain is attached to) the same tone.

It’s a lovely fixture.

You can see the urn/swag motif.

And the canopy.

The chandelier originally had hanging crystals as evidenced by tell-tale mounting holes. These were long gone when I purchased the fixture. The new crystals had to be short as they would otherwise bang into the upper housing. I picked amber as the color was kinda the default crystal color in the 1920s.

That canopy is a perfect match, even the bottom part with the pleats or folds. The mix of metals and colors doesn’t bother me at all.

The crystals do bother me a bit. I know amber was common but with the finish on that fixture I really think clear would fit better. The color just seems too intense for the rest and draws the eye to much.

Mary, I already ordered 5 clear drops and will ask the eventual buyer which they prefer.

I knew you would notice that.

Can we see it with the clear drops when they arrive?
