Sadly, I forgot to take a BEFORE image. But the AFTER is well worth your time.
Golly!
This is another light rescued from my ATTIC. The original red paint was worn, scratched, and blotchy. I stripped it down to bare metal and began anew. The wiring is all new, and cloth-covered like the original.
The fixture is circa-1940s, and is a style very popular in 1940s kitchens. And the finial is an on/off switch. How cool is that?

There was a house on the corner on the way to my parent’s house that had the kitchen in the corner that faced the street and some big windows. They had several of these lights hanging in there and it always looked so festive at night as i was driving home.
Not right for my house but for the right house, that is fantastic. The red is so cheery. It just invites a red checkered tablecloth underneath.
This is so cute! Now I want it in my remodeled kitchen. Which I hope will be happening in 2025 or 2026.
Better get it now before it’s gone.
Love these homey 1940s shades. Would be perfect in my early 1940s mining home in AZ. The kitchen and original bathroom are the only rooms that still have their original lighting fixtures, so there’s a nice 1940s glass fixture thTat’s almost a schoolhouse type globe but with a frosted bottom and ridged edges. But alas, none like this one. I’m pretty sure a couple of my relatives had originals like yours in their Midwestern homes when I was growing up in the 1950s.
