CH: Day 148

Before. Note the messy vertical corner trim, left of middle. Click on all images to enlarge.

Today.

Before.

Today. I will be infilling below the right window with lap-siding, painted in the historic colors. After the Violation work is complete, I plan to refinish the door with a dark stain, and several coats of gloss poly. It has a lovely beveled-glass panel, and gorgeous hardware. At some point the upper door will be removed. I may just shingle over the opening but might add a third window, which would match the south side. Oh, and all the yard junk will soon be gone!

Before. Yikes!

Yay! for the 3 windows idea!

If you haven’t found a front door yet, why not switch it with the back door? If the sizes aren’t different, of course. It has a nice beveled glass, lovely hardware, and opens the opposite way. 🌻

Kim, the kitchen door is too narrow.

Ross, you are at the finish line!! I’m sure the complainers are happy and they can go back to their boring lives.
So, what is the plan once you are officially finished with the CH?

Hi, Dan! I posted about my future planes here.

Excellent progress. Little baby steps all over the place.

Is the city even going to bother to come out and check the list any more?

    • Ross on December 10, 2023 at 3:09 pm

Hi, Mary. The city has not come by since the work started. Instead, I meet them at the beginning of each month and show them my blog posts. They’ve been very nice.

      • mlaiuppa on December 10, 2023 at 10:27 pm

Well, that’s nice of them and efficient. They could simply have someone check your blog or subscribe to get all the updates. That certainly would save time and gas driving out to do a visual inspection on site.

We haven’t heard a thing about Plumb Place since it was bought and saved. Is anything happening over there or have you been so busy in the back you haven’t been looking across the street?

        • Ross on December 10, 2023 at 10:36 pm

Mary, City Hall is a block away so it’s easy-peasy to stop by.

The Plumb Mansion looks WAY better than it did. They had a small fire (yikes!) a few weeks ago and the roof of the octagon library is shrouded by tarp.

The owner, Chris, continues to struggle with cancer. Cancer is a bitch.

The green trim looks SO nice, great progress! Are you going to paint the trim green on the window to the left of the door?

    • Ross on December 10, 2023 at 2:13 pm

      I am not, Cindy!

Well done, Ross! Looking at it now, the Carriage House looks way better. The modifications that were done improved the house’s appearance Whooohoooo!
