CH: Day 15

The past few afternoons have not been, well, fun. Too hot, too much sun, and too little wind. Argh! Yesterday I had to haul out the big fan to get through the work.

Today, around 3PM, I went inside the big house to cool off, splash by head with cold water, have an iced soda, and sit my old butt down while looking at the latest news (a doozy!).

After twenty minutes I went back outside.

And the world had changed.

It was suddenly a dark and stormy afternoon. The sun had run off, the temperature had dropped considerably, and the wind grew ever-more ferocious! I loved it! Quickly, I raced to attach as much siding as I could.

And then I could do no more. But how glorious that bit of time!

And what I accomplished today.

Before moving the scaffolding deck up I am going to paint all that is now reachable. So, soon, pretty colors!

With that done I will move the deck up and finish the upper-most portion of the wall. It is rather a mess as it retains bits of the 1894 structure with remains of the circa-1920 porch. I itch to made nice of the mess.

Ross excited.

Yay for steady progress and rain!

Nice work and hopefully the weather doesn’t get too ” glorious “. On another note I have wondered if maybe you have poked the bear with you comments about a fair sale of the mansion just down the street. And then you have code violations?

Ross, I was worried you would end up in Oz after that photo of the dark clouds!

15 days to get that far but oh, paint. PAINT! That will make all of the difference in the world. And I suspect that is all they wanted. Slap some paint on quick to show some effort. then you can take your time getting stuff moved and patched up properly and once and for all.

Once there is a permanent porch deck it will be easier to work but baby steps. Not needed yet. Just get the city off your back enough to go back to doing the work properly, all in it’s own time.

I started some baby steps of my own yesterday. Granted my weather has been a lot nicer than yours but my back hasn’t. I dragged out the weed eater and I mowed my driveway. mine is like a half a driveway. But it was progress and I’m sure the folks in the alley noticed. My goal is to do the sidewalk and easement out front by the weekend. A little at a time. Then I can work on the front yard. I have two trees that need planting and that will require soft earth and that will require a few days of watering and then waiting for the deep soak. Plus I’ll have to hack up grass to get to the dirt. A little at a time and I’ll get there.

I should be sending you residuals for use of your baby step™ method.

Well done, Ross! Glad that the weather was cooler.

So cool there’s still visible evidence of that 1894 structure. That carriage house really is something.

    Remarkable!

    Excellent progress!

Can’t wait to see it painted the pretty Cross House colors!

    Please be careful!

Great progress. It’s horrible working in the heat under the hot sun and probably humid too. It’s a godsend when the temps drop, glad you got something done before you were soaked.
