CH: Day 48

The dark brown board is the 1894 1×3 trim. Above it (far right) is the 1894 crown. The white board is new pre-primed pine crown.

The 1894 1×3 trim on the turret was slathered with tar (the circa-1921 porch was under). I was able to scrape most of the tar off. So, I can keep this trim. Squee! The 1894 crown had rotted away.

Since the trim ends are butted, is there tar paper underneath? Will you be putting caulk in the seam?
Someone suggested painting the underneath of the turret with the same peachy color as the porch on the Cross House. Whether the walls are white or Cross colors, could the bottom of the turret be painted Cross Porch colors?
You have really accomplished a lot in a much shorter time. Window and door switcheroo next week?
What do you need to get the transom out of hock?
Well done, Ross! There is progress everyday! *hugs*
Where did you find the trim? I bought some years ago and last year, it all dried up, and I had to just fill missing bits with scrap wood. Now I am waiting to rebuild my porch and need 60ft of it…so I need to start my search up again.
Such a great shot of the turret’s overhang with the other columns and porch roof in the background. A view of the present, past and future of the Carriage house all in one picture.
Looking good Ross. You’re gonna make it after all (Mary Tyler Moore theme song)
Keep baby stepping along!
