CH: Day 62
On Friday, I left Strong City, heading east to the Cross House.
I knew there was a storm to the west and hoped it was not moving east.
The sky ahead was blue. Looking in the rearview mirror showed an ominous sky. I thought: I should turn around and go back home.
But I needed groceries.
Arriving in Emporia, I stopped at the lumberyard to buy a new chop saw as removing the blade on my very old saw proved impossible. Even the local we-can-do-anything hardware store could not get it off. Last year Justin refused to use the saw. “It wobbles. I think it’s dangerous.” This comment has never left me.
Hence, the purchase.
Departing the store I noted the still blue sky.
Arriving at the Cross House, I stood in the yard. The sky east was still blue. I turned around. Yikes. The ominous sky had obviously followed me. It seemed close enough to touch. I kept turning, fascinated, between blue and black.
Going inside the Cross House I sat down to check the weather radar. It took a while to find one working. Huh? The radar showed Emporia engulfed by a massive storm. I walked to the window, opened the blinds, and…ZOUNDS! It was monsoon!
The storm, obviously, was fast moving.
And working on the Carriage House was doomed for the day.
Dashing back to the car, I got my groceries and headed home.
And that, my fellow flying monkeys, was Day 62.

If Justin says it’s wobbles and wouldn’t use it and you can’t get the blade off and it’s that old, than safer to replace it. I’m in the process of replacing many of my 20-30+ year old power tools. In the process I am also adding ones I’ve never had but could use, my current favorite being the reciprocating saw.
I saw on the weather you were not only going to have a cool day but a wet one. Wasn’t sure you would get anything done, even with the tarp. But you did. You bought a new saw and groceries. I call that a baby step™.
It might rain tomorrow too. 65% chance in the evening and overnight. It will be 90 on Monday but 100 on Tuesday. You’l have to wait until Friday and Saturday for some 80s. 81% humidity.
Gee, I guess I shouldn’t be complaining about my weather. You’ve got a lot better air quality then here too.
I waited all day for FedEx who never came. When the temps dropped I took the dogs out front at 6pm, locked the gate and worked for two hours in the shade and cool breeze. Tried to make up for tomorrow when it will be 92 all afternoon and I’ll get nothing done.
I’m west of you in Colorado and love the free RadarScope weather app. The weather has been wild this year!
