Flooring Prep

I previously posted about my plan to remove the outer edge of the existing subfloor (comprising two layers) in the living and dining rooms of the Carriage House, and install oak flooring. The plywood in the center will remain, to be later covered by rugs. This will save Ross $$$ and Handsome Justin time.

Godsend Eric came over with his skill saw set to 3/4-inches and an all-important chalk line. He effortlessly sawed though the chalk line, thus allowing the outer border of plywood to be…

…removed by Ross. It is not hard. All this can now be infilled with oak, which will match the foyer oak (bottom of picture). With a rug in place, it will be GORGEOUS, dahlink! What is also nice is several huge disused return ducts (lower right) will be covered over. Ross excited!

Have you thought of weaving the corners by laying the oak longways on each side. Does that make sense? It might both accent the rug and disguise the fact this floor is newer.
The oak will be laid parallel to each wall, and ‘weave’ in the corners. Is that what you mean, Mary?
Yes.
A lot of Sears kit homes had hardwood flooring perimeters and softwood under the rug. A classic choice!
Ooh, this will be so pretty! And it will make an enormous difference in the room.
Tiny typo alert: “effortless” for “effortlessly” here: “Godsend Eric came over with his skill saw set to 3/4-inches and an all-important chalk line. He effortless sawed though the chalk line, thus allowing the outer border of plywood to be…”
Thanks again, peaches!
Another beauty coming up.
