Fuchsia Madness
Today, the draperies arrived for the dining room!
Why, one might ask, did Ross order draperies for a room which looks like a bomb has gone off in it, a room perhaps two years from being restored and decorated?
Because…A SALE!
My friend Patricia keep telling me: “Ross! Half Price Drapes is having this incredible sale. You’ve got to place an order!”
OK. So I looked. Golly. Each panel was 80% off! If you purchased one panel, a second panel was free! Free shipping, too! And $70 off with the coupon code!
How could I resist? How could anyone resist? So, I ordered 14 panels of a shocking fuchsia faux silk! 7 panels were hugely discounted. 7 panels were free! Free! ALL WERE SHIPPED FREE!
So, yes, golly.
I did the same with the parlor, purchasing the silk drapery well before I actually started working on the room because of an incredible sale. Having the teal drapes guided my choices, and the teal was even matched for the frieze color, which ended up making all the difference in how the room evolved.
In the dining room, I knew I wanted fuchsia, as this would well complement the five stained-glass windows in the room. The walls will be a vivid violet. Yes, all quite dramatic but the Cross House is soooooooooo not a beige kinda place.

I love them and I love that Cross House never gonna be beige!
I really like the rug in the last photo. Is it an antique or one made to look aged. Love the colors.
Hi, Leslie!
I purchased the rug for the parlor…and hated it in the parlor!
So, it was moved to the dining room, where it looks quite good. Whew!
Oh what a majestic choice, paired with the splendid chandelier – let’s me think of Freddie Mercury’s words “I dress to kill, but tastefully”
Great deals. 😉
Ross, have you ever thought about taking on students from a trade school to help with the repairs. You would be an excellent teacher. They would learn how to really restore a house.
Drapes are gonna be perfect!
You know, Dan, that’s a great idea. My school has a construction trades department and every year they build a new house. However, our town has so many historic homes and they don’t know anything about plaster, only drywall. They don’t have any experience with restoration. What a treat for them to get their hands on REAL materials – not just plastic and fiberglass. Ross, I wonder if there is a program close to you? Of course, you’d have to be patient, which we already know you are!
Oh, and, the drapes are going to just be stunning.
It may be worth looking into, every school district is different. I am friends with the local high school building trades teacher, and I once suggested using the students to repair and remodel homes for local low-income and elderly families; he said that due to insurance regulations, the students could not so much as drive a nail on any site that was not school-owned. I’m not sure what the state regulatory board would say, but I am sure that there are a lot of people that would PAY for the opportunity to take “classes” at the Cross House, learning from Ross, and getting some hands-on experience in old house restoration…of course, Ross’ property insurance would probably not allow that, unless he paid some ungodly extra premium for the additional liability insurance. Our society has become so “sue-happy” that the insurance companies can justify gouging their customers on every hand…
If you needed a color to define “not beige”… you can’t get more “not beige” than this one! Can’t wait to see it all put together.
Marvelous color! Drapes this color will look beautiful in the dining room & complement the stained glass! Look lovely paired with rug!!!
Ross, who did you purchase the drapes from? Beautiful!
I’m always so sad when I scroll down and there’s no “next post.” 😭😭😭 Don’t ever stop writing!! I need more, MORE I tell you!
Same… I check in on this site way too often. Obsession? Perhaps.
Could you get a “Hell yes that’s amazing!” button please? I’m in dire need.
I swear, you have to be on amazing interiors. The Netflix show. LOL!!!!
I forgive you for those hideous white bookshelves due to your exquisite good taste in drape choice. these aren’t fuschia.
