Good. Rewarded. At Last.

In 2015, I did a blog post about a titanic battle between Good Ross and Evil Ross.

If you have not read the post, I suggest clicking the link above and taking a look. I assure you it will be worth it.

In 2016, I did an update. This, too, is well worth it.

It is now 2021.

I have an update. Please scroll down…

Love it! And right below a window, where all good sinks should be.

      Agreed, Barb!

The sink location is also original to the circa-1921 conversion.

Absolutely. One of the top criteria when I was searching for my house was there must be a window over the sink. My sink is in the corner and so high I can barely see out of it (Mrs. Bishop was a foot taller than me) but that’s okay, it provides light and I can look up and see the sky.

I also wanted a porcelain on cast iron tub which I got, a garage which I got, hard wood floors and plaster walls, which I also got. The only thing I didn’t get was a fireplace and I’m OK with that. I even managed to get a two car garage (detached) and it has a half bath in it and a built in workbench.

I lived in an apartment with a sink facing a wall for a few months and I couldn’t stand it. I don’t even like those island ones that face into a room. (It also had a fiberglass tub. Never again.)

The sink is great, and I love that color…was it always green, or was it reglazed at some point? I have one similar but with a double bowl, it came from my grandparents’ basement, but it is white with about 3 or 4 coats of green paint on it, LOL…

      Mike, the green is original.

      And fabulous!

Cody is so lucky to be able to wash his dishes in that luscious sink.

You know, I’ve never seen a green one! We had a white one on the farm (with cabinet underneath) and mom and dad found one for their house in town. So jealous of them all! 🙂

You know that vintage sketch you posted in 2015? Well, just flip it horizontally and that is your kitchen. The cupboard is on the left, the taps and sink are on the right and the drainboard is on the left. And you’re planning to put the stove on the right. You have a mirror image of that kitchen print in the carriage house. I’m sure you could duplicate those counters with the Home Depot stuff by replacing the doors or facing them or something. And wall paper and paint can do wonders.

Vintage stoves are also available if you look long and hard. I’ve seen them just like the ones in the sketch but I would urge updating to something a bit newer with at least a safety shutoff valve on the gas. Reconditioned they work safely. I know, as my O’Keefe and Merritt is from the mid 50s and in perfect working order. If they are in good working order they are perfectly safe. As you know, many vintage household items are workhorses that can last a lifetime or more. I expect my stove to still be going strong when I’m dead. And in some ways they can be better than modern ones. My pilot light is on all of the time and as a result the oven compartment is always warm. Perfect if you make home-made bread. Mine also has a built in griddle for wonderful pancakes. I’m eventually going to try making my own english muffins. The broiler is under the oven and the oven will go up to 500 degrees. I expect if I put it on broil it might get even hotter. Think pizza oven.

If the taps allow, you might consider a using a Dishmaster faucet even though it isn’t period to the 1920s. If you are going to do dishes by hand, it makes the task much more enjoyable, especially if you have a single sink.

I really love your sink and it’s perfect for a right handed person using a Dishmaster. With the wand in your right hand, wash and rinse and then place the clean dish to your left on the drainboard and grab another with your left hand.

Evil Ross should learn that if he shuts up and is patient, Good Ross’ Karma will provide Evil Ross with his heart’s desire.
