Inching Along

Last week. I was able to paint three of the five garlands on the tower last weekend with the bucket lift. Today, I was able to finish the last two (above) by using a ladder. Wanna see?

Today! MUCH better, I think!

How does one put a ladder on a sloped roof? Mini-scaffolding!

I have finished garland #4. Only #5 is still unpainted.

The garlands look awesome and I am particularly thrilled to see so many sections of the railing in place on the front porch!

Just zoomed in on the detailed piece on the little peak above the front porch steps.. WHAT A TREAT it is! Including what could be described as a Christmas ornament..another decoration on the whole package… Following your blog and progress are a true pleasure…TYVM!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but have the stained glass transoms in the round bedroom not been restored yet? That one above the last wreath (which looks frikkin fabulous, by the way), looks like a wavy mess. Hard to say though since the sash has already been painted black.

Congrats Ross! It all looks so spectacular-and somehow you make it seem so easy and effortless!
Just the ladder on the mini scaffolding alone would have given me complete vertigo. No matter what obstacles- bats, heat, etc. you have
not wavered in keeping your eye on the prize.

ps I love the plants on either side of the steps. I must have missed the post about them. What are they?

Looks great! I hate to say it (because it looks like it would be a pia to get up there!), but I think you should paint the decorations in the gables (porch and dormer) the darker color that the garlands are as well.

You might do something like a sponged wash on those gables to accent the details without actually making them solid green,

Love watching your progress. It looks beautiful.Glad you don’t have a fear of heights. It scares me just looking at the pictures! 🙂

Ross, you are one very, very confidant soul. My heart just did a leap and a half at the thought of guiding ladder to rest just above those beautiful windows. If I even thought about something like that, the ladder would have went THROUGH the window.
    Your work is stunning.

I thought the exact same thing! You have got to have some nerves of steel; I can’t go higher than about 15 feet off the ground on a ladder, and that’s assuming its on solid ground!

I love love love the potted plants on either side of the steps. Just scrumptious!!!! I echo PK in that I have meant to comment on how lively they are.
