Inching Along

I have not posted about the tower base work for weeks because it was just too damn hot. So, it is nice to finish the last mile. This is window #3. Look! Open drapes!

And….squee!!!!!!!! Almost done. All the tower work was hard, time-consuming, and I did not enjoy it. But, it needed doing.
Next will be to finish off the column base I replaced a few weeks ago, and then to refinish the outer double entry doors. Dr. Doug refinished them in 2014, but the finish failed a while back. They have been flaking for years. I am going to sand them down, and then use gloss polyurethane, which is what I used on the columns in 2017 and which looks pristine.
I also have to find out how water is getting into the main porch beam.
Ahhhhh, old houses: a never-ending adventure!

Hi Ross!
I have been reading your blog now for quite awhile now but never responded in any way.
I have been living vicariously through your adventures with the Cross house and the Carriage house. I have fantasized about having a beautiful old house to work on and live in but unfortunately I never had the opportunity to do what you are doing.
I am in the middle of a renovation on an early 70’s bungalow that has taken the better part of my summer and my sanity…lol. It’s not nearly on the scale that you are dealing with but it has given me pause to realize I am not going through 1/10th of what you are going through! Renovating a home is not always easy and takes so much out of you mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially.
I commend you for what you have done so far and I am cheering you on as you tackle the next item on your list of 1278 things to do!
Well done, Ross! Nice to see the curtain drawn. You got that done! Wheeee
Not only are old houses an never ending adventure, but they quickly become money pits if not maintained properly. Your work for years has been proof that maintenance on a regular basis is better than letting things go until it gets to the point that a Ross invention takes years!
Hi Ross, I’m not a frequent poster, but I love this blog so much. I get nervous when it’s been a while since you’ve posted! Hope you’re okay and you’re just in the thick of life.
Nice to meet you, Kat! I did a post 2 days ago.
Is Ross ok? We miss your sunny disposition and whoeees.
