Inching Along. Brilliantly?

Today, I installed black pinstripe to the lattice. The pinstripe is actually garden hose! It will not rot nor ever need repainting. Yes, it’s true, I am brilliant! Now…I just need to utilize such brilliance to figure out what to do with the cobbled-together down-spout.

And with this image I am just showing off: the gloriously refinished north door and its arresting “Kelp” hardware. Arresting! Oh my! Every time I open the door I experience a thrill, along with wonder and appreciation.

See the bracket upper left? See all the nice detailing to its right side?

Well, I had to remake a rotted bracket above the west curved window. The portion to the left is original; I had to recreate the right side. I carefully duplicated all the luscious detail…to no avail! The whole right side of the bracket is covered by the porch cornice! When I realized this, standing on a ladder, I laughed. For, obviously, my brilliance is, sigh, uneven.

See the trim just above the stone? See the missing bit?

Today I installed the missing bit.

Bit by bit . . . it’s all coming together. Brilliantly.

Bravo, Ross! As for the other “repeats”, the end results were always worth redoing the items. We have faith in you.

Looks great! The crisp contrast if the freshly-tarnished oak door, painted jamb, and beautiful patina on the fabulous hardware is an amazing sight.

You are certainly not the first one to spend time on details that are later covered up. There’s still some satisfaction in knowing it’s there, though 🙂

Definitely brilliantly! Your kelp hardware is beautiful. I noticed that you also painted your window sills. Is your bat still living in the same spot or has it moved?

That door is exquisite work! I love the black strip trick. Your house stands proud.

Beautiful door and hardware. Lol re: the fancy bits being hidden. Contemplating a light charcoal porch floor. Ties in with the black trim and compliments the windows I think.. just a thought. You will come up with something brilliant I’m sure

My 12 year old daughter says “I like this guy! He’s my hero! I want to meet him!” in response to today’s post. She has been following all along. She also loves the black pinstripe. She had said previously that she just doesn’t like lattice, but now she says it looks just right. By the way, I just started homeschooling her since she is just too smart for the slow pace of regular school. She already reads at a college level. She is my adopted daughter, my sister’s grand-daughter, but could easily be my own flesh and blood.

Was the missing bit in the Alladen’s Cave?

I am so impressed how quickly it seems to be moving along now. The black hose looks so perfectly mitered and fitted-I am amazed at your speed, expertise and energy. But of course you probably have Grey helping and working all hours of the night!

I’m super DUPER excited to see the basement eyebrow window in glorious technicolor now!

It is fabulous, I simply adore your home and the progress. Reading your posts simply make my day. This may be nuts, but is it possible to stain the porch floor the same color as that beautiful door so you won’t have to introduce another color?

I’ve been a silent long time reader now and I love following along with your progress, one question never seems to be answered though…. When are you moving in?
