Inching Along in a ZOUNDS-like Way

Yesterday. Note the crumbling lattice. Wanna see what I did today? Scroll way down…

I removed the old and…

…installed the new!

The lattice will be painted in color #5.

It will have trim around the perimeter edges painted black.

The flat frame will be green.

Even unpainted and unfinished it still looks SO much better. I am quite ecstatic.

Save the top board, the whole thing is made of pressure-treated lumber so it should last a million years. It was made over three years ago and has been stored in the carriage house. Thus, it is dry and stable.

Painting the lattice will be fun. Not!

Looks great Ross. What are your plans for the porch floors?

    • Ross on October 24, 2017 at 9:33 pm

      I have no idea.

The lattice is just great– love the plans ahead!!

Will the porch ceiling also be the coral color you did on the ceiling of the front porch? I can’t quite see if this ceiling has been painted already or not.

In the bottom picture you can partially see the coral ceiling of this porch.

I thought maybe that’s what that was, but wasn’t sure. My eyesight isn’t super. Look at you with your fully-functional eyes! 😉

Could you spray it? Not that I enjoyed spraying at all

I never noticed the window under the porch, how odd!

Ross, it is such a thrill to see your progress. The new lattice looks fantastic.

That lattice looks sturdy enough to last as long as the house.

  8. Gabi on October 25, 2017 at 8:22 am

Wouldn’t it have been easier to paint the lattice before installing?

    • Bethany Otto on October 25, 2017 at 8:50 am

That’s what I was thinking. Not that I ever paint anything. Ever.

      • Jonathan W on October 25, 2017 at 2:37 pm

I believe the lattice is pre-built. It wouldn’t do much to pre paint.

Eeeee! Yes, the devil is in all of the small details. And no one handles those as well as you do! But…put all the details together and lordy, lordy the big picture is gorgeous!

Sooooo exciting to see it up!

It sounds odd to say that I am proud of a house that not only isn’t mine, but that I have never seen…but that’s what I feel. I’ve said since the beginning that the north wall is my favorite, and it has surpassed my expectations by leaps and bounds. Awesome job, Ross!

What is the deal again with that unpainted bracket above the curved window in the first picture? Is it awaiting replacement?

and btw that new lattice looks lovely.

    • Ross on October 25, 2017 at 8:39 pm

      Yes.

      And thank you!

  13. Sandra Lee on October 25, 2017 at 9:41 pm

    Just stunning!!!! Sooooo lovely!!!!

I am so puzzled by that little window under the porch. It’s only function seems to be ventilation!?
And I really love this side of Cross house with its many gorgeous details.

It would have been tantalizing to see under the porch before you put the lattice back. I know you removed debris, right Ross? I bet you even washed that little hidden window glass.
