Recently, I did a post about an important vote coming up in Kansas, on Tuesday, August 2.

Yet again, the Republican party is doing everything it can to make life harder for people, particularly women.

Yet again, the Republican party wants to tell women that they cannot control their own bodies. For, the party insists, this must be controlled by the state.

In Kansas, the right for a woman to choose is enshrined in the Kansas Constitution. But, on August 2, the people of Kansas will either vote to protect this right, or vote to take away this right by amending the Constitution.

I vote NO for any government trying to control the bodies of women.

Their body. Their choice.

Amen! Scary times. Never did I think we would start going backwards on this subject in the country. Unbelievable this is an issue right now. I like your signage!

Camel’s nose. Once they succeed with women they’ll be looking for other targets. You already know some of them; LGBTQ, Trans, undocumented, DACA. They’ll start to target anyone that isn’t a “proper” Christian. (Many don’t consider Catholics to be Christians.) Then it will be anyone that isn’t acceptably Caucasian. The degree and the geographic origin that constitutes acceptable will likely be so muddled so it will be up to each racist organization/state creating their own definition. That will be interesting since at one point Italians were not considered to be “white.” No more mixed race marriages, marriages being only between a man and a woman. They may even go so far as to ban mixed religion marriages. Anne Meara and Jerry Seinfeld would have had to live in sin.

They’ll bring back the legal term “bastard” and make sure it is on birth certificates.

But it will start with women. First it’s abortion. They are already planning on restricting birth control next. Then I imagine there will be other restrictions. Perhaps they’ll try going back to when a husband or father had to be cosigner for credit cards and bank accounts. I imagine these same frightened little impotent man-babies will look to restricting a woman’s right to own property, which would include running their own businesses. That will certainly relieve the competition to those losing market share to women-run companies. Then maybe capping education at high school No more college for you, young lady, unless you happen to be rich. There are always exceptions for the rich. Then maybe high school is too much education. They really only need an 8th grade education to do housework, domestic service or work fast food. A cost savings as it will leave more money to educate the menfolk because they will be the breadwinners. While they’re at it they won’t forget the rest. Class ceilings will turn to stone, complaints and lawsuits denied or lost, goods and services withheld. Restrictions galore. They’ll think they are bringing back Ozzie and Harriet when it will be more like The Color Purple.

This isn’t going to end with women. They are only the beginning.

I agree with everything you wrote, Mary.

Note though: it’s not just men doing this. There are plenty of women who are foaming at the mouth to control the bodies of other women. And to bring us all back a century.

      • mlaiuppa on June 23, 2022 at 4:06 pm

        That is true.

Equally true is there are men that support women and are against these laws.

I’ll be presumptuous and speak on behalf of women when I say thank you for your support.

Mary, you are presumptuous, but with the best of intentions. I am amazed, not that so many women are celebrating per se, but that their overall mindset is so willfully blind and ignorant that they kiss the very hands that seek to bind them. My social media newsfeed was filled last night with females posting “Celebrate Life!” and other slogans; I want to ask them “Who’s life???” The 12 year old girl who was molested by a family member and now must carry that pedophile’s child and give birth to it, then live with “her” shame and disgrace for the rest of her life? Or the young woman who was brutally raped and now must bear the child of her attacker, and maybe even be forced by law to share custody of that child with him? Or the young couple who’s hopes have been shattered by the test results that show that their unborn child will die at birth because it doesn’t have some essential organ? Don’t misunderstand me, I do not believe in “abortion as birth control” simply because people (men and women) are purposely careless and irresponsible; they have pills and condoms and other devices to prevent unwanted pregnancies. But there are so many, many situations where lives can be ruined and even ended because of a pregnancy that should never have happened, and I do not believe that a judge or a politician should make that decision for the people involved. Another question I have is concerning how all of this will affect invitro-fertilization procedures for couples who can’t conceive naturally? Once a woman becomes pregnant, what about the leftover embryos that are now unneeded? Must they be kept frozen forever? Technically, under some state laws, they could be considered to be people and therefor protected as citizens under the law. As for men’s bodies, I really hope that some lawmaker somewhere has the courage to start introducing laws that will force Congress to show what hypocrites they are; a good start would be to surgically castrate all male sex offenders. Would it pass? Never…but it would show the hypocrisy that brought us to this point and hopefully wake some people up.

I don’t live in Kansas – but I truly appreciate this post. Thank you

    • Ross on June 23, 2022 at 11:14 am

      Thank you, Emily!

Republicans always complaining about government regulations and blaming the democrats for putting in place measures that protect the people lives, their money, the environment, etc. And here they are, showing their complete hypocrisy by trying to regulate and control women’s bodies. How can one respect people that speak out of both sides of their mouths?

    • Ross on June 23, 2022 at 11:14 am

      Agreed, Paul.

      The hypocrisy is…impressive.

Same for Republicans who refuse to were masks. “My body! My choice!” Yet, the want to control the bodies of women.

    • mlaiuppa on June 23, 2022 at 4:08 pm

We need a word much stronger than just “Hypocrites.”

      • Ross on June 23, 2022 at 4:27 pm

        EVIL.

    Wonderful use of signs!!!

    • Ross on June 23, 2022 at 11:12 am

      Thank you, Lori!

I have two things going for me:
      1) a highly visible location!
      2) a lot of frontage!

I figured I should put them to good use.

      BIG hug!

No matter what my beliefs are, NO ONE should have the right to regulate a woman’s body. Read something where a lady said, why not order vasectomies for all men (since the can be reversed) until they are responsible enough to be a father. A big nope you say, well, that’s what women say. (I don’t advocate for vasectomies – but just thought it was amazing how outraged the male responders were – I have rights?) Going back to the dark ages, and how many will die?

  7. Cindy Belanger on June 23, 2022 at 6:38 pm

I completely agree. I can’t vote in Kansas, but I hope there is a huge NO vote to this amendment.

  8. Cindy Belanger on June 23, 2022 at 6:39 pm

P.S. I like the signs and the Cross House looks fantastic in the above pic.

Thank you for this Ross. I remember when Roe was passed. I was about 22.

I knew 4 girls who had to have illegal abortions prior to Roe- the poor girl who had to quit high school because she was pregnant, the rich girl who “went on vacation” and came back no longer pregnant, the older girl (maybe 20) who had a back alley abortion in Harlem, (we helped her recover) and then a college friend who we drove from CT to NY because NY made abortion legal in 1970. Abortion is always a tragedy on many levels, however there will always be abortions, and the only abortions that will be illegal now, are safe abortions.

Definitely going backwards, and worrying about what limits will follow…

My daughter is seriously talking about moving to another country and setting up a safe house for the daughters of her friends. I’m going to help her.

  11. Paul on August 2, 2022 at 12:14 pm

I am praying for Kansans today; and hoping that they send a message to the rest of the country today. A positive message.

  12. Allison on August 2, 2022 at 9:51 pm

HOLY COW, KANSAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You did it. I am utterly amazed. I was not expecting our state neighbor to the right (of Colorado, both literally and figuratively) to vote so decisively in upholding women’s healthcare rights.

I feel so hugely relieved and encouraged by this.
