Me either. With all the Republican support and the women and young people it doesn’t make any sense. I was sure she would at least win the popular vote. What is going on?
Well, he wouldn’t would he. He won both the electoral college and the popular vote.
What I noticed was this year he was lazy. He wasn’t really campaigning. It was just, sorta “show” campaigning. Like he knew he didn’t really have to work very hard because it was a sure thing.
Latest numbers I saw today are:
Harris: 70,851,271 Trump: 74,525,961 as per CNN online 2 hours ago.
So she is less than 4 million votes behind. Not as much of blow out as the Republicans are crowing about.
More of a typical turnout for this election on the Democratic side, compared to 2020. Trump did a better job of reaching his folks.
I believe that a whole lot of people just blew off the election because they were sick and tired of it and figured it doesn’t make any difference anyway. How wrong they will soon find out.
I am not assuming that unengaged voters are Democrats. Many, many folks identify with neither party.
I’m just saying the Democratic Party was not as effective at getting voters out for their cause.
Personally, I thought Harris did the best she could given the time constraints with such a short campaign window. I’m heartbroken that we lost another opportunity for a female President. The Democratic Party message just did not break through Trump’s relentless multi-year tirade of attacks on the Biden-Harris term.
IMHO going down a fraud conspiracy rat hole is losing time that is too precious to waste.🤷🏼♀️
Whether due to Enthusiasm against Trump. COVID induced mail-in ballots, fraud, whatever, it’s just a poor dataset to use – it is THE anomaly over the past 5+ Prez elections. Comparison’s to it are no more useful than comparing current incidences of influenza to 2020, rather than the preceding years.
That is a suspiciously large gap. I imagine it will narrow as the mail in and provisional ballots are counted, but it won’t be enough.
Biden and Democrats have been too quiet fixing the mess or bragging about their accomplishments. They should have been reminding people of the mess they fixed for four years at every accomplishment.
I think the bottom line is forget the high road. No more Mr Nice Guy. No more being humble, keeping your head down and doing your job. Democrats need to brag about everything the do and make sure to add a reminder of why they had to do it, making sure to insult and tear down the responsible parties. Keep it fresh in voters minds.
Moving forward, we have an action plan.
We start now with the courts, litigating and tying up every effing attempt by our new fascist overlords to undermine our Constitution, Rights and the Rule of Law. They filed 1000 lawsuits (and lost most) during Biden’s presidency. We are going to file 1000 A YEAR in retaliation. That’s right. Time to start using the Republican playbook for everything, including retaliation and retribution. And we play just as dirty as they do in future elections. We’ve got people to “deep fake” on social media too. Mudslinging should be returned three-fold.
BTW, anyone still on Twitter needs to choose a different platform and move there. I’ve never done it, nor Facebook. I didn’t care for their data-mining and lack of security. Now we have a better reason to avoid them.
What is the first thing I would do now in the days before January 20?
Fast track prosecution of Elon Musk for his coordination with Putin and violation of election laws, take away his citizenship and deport him. Put the entire DOJ on it so it can be filed and the trial and sentencing take place before January 20. We have 60 days. He needs to be deported BEFORE January 20 and it needs to be done in a way that President Felon cannot undo it. With all their lawyers I’m sure the DOJ can find a way. Either make it civil or on the state level. Then the Felon can’t pardon him.
Next thing?
Joe Biden should blanket pardon everyone on the Felons’s enemies list or that potentially might be on the Felon’s enemies list so he has no one left for his military tribunals. Start with Hunter Biden, then work on down to Ruby Freeman and Shae Moss. Don’t forget Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels, owners of any media that endorsed Harris, including the Meidas Touch network and prominent YouTube vloggers and every judge and lawyer involved in every prosecution. Pardon the lot. YUGE list. No reason needed.
I hate to say this, recognize that this is still a racist, bigoted, misogynist country. So for the next few elections, run white men and they need to be younger than qualifying for Social Security and Medicare. Also, stay away from the coasts. While I like Gavin Newsom he should not run for president in 2028. He is seen as an elite, in both education and financially. We need “working people” candidates from the middle of the country. Walz was an excellent choice this year. This election brought out some really good ones: Walz, Pritzker, Shapiro and of course Pete Buttigieg. And they should all start NOW to up their national name recognition so when 2028 comes around people don’t respond with “who?” when their names appear on a national ballot. And Pete should run for Senator the first chance he gets. He lives in Michigan now.
Lastly, the Democrats need to make a long range plan of action, like in the decades. No more of this focusing on the next election. We don’t need a two year or four year plan. We need a 20, 50, 100 year plan. A 100 year plan with benchmarks at the 2, 4, 8, 20 year marks and into the future. And that needs to be on the state and local level as well as Federal. Howard Dean was correct when he chastised the Democrats for concentrating on the Federal and losing the states. So in all this, there needs to be a push to take back state legislatures and governorships. I wouldn’t discount mayors either. We had huge support from mayors this election, especially Republican mayors coming out for Harris. I didn’t hear of any Democratic mayors endorsing the Felon.
As for the rest of us, we need to modify our language. President Felon. Criminal in chief. A label, not his name. That will not only take away his power but also be a constant reminder of exactly WHAT he is. No more cutesy, ha-ha, play on words nicknames. Pick something true and powerful and make it stick with repetition.
I always refer to him as orange man – as in ‘Orange Jumpsuit’ Man. Being in Canada, I wil keep an eye on our CON servatives (that, unfortunately , is not hyperbole), and get more involved with the left leaning groups up here. <3
Neither can I. It isn’t logical.
Me either. With all the Republican support and the women and young people it doesn’t make any sense. I was sure she would at least win the popular vote. What is going on?
Agree! My neighbor noticed this as well. And…have you noticed that Trump isn’t complaining about the election being rigged???
What can we do?
I will do anything it takes to help get the Dems ready for 2026 and 2028.
Ross thank you for continuing to post about his. It’s so difficult to deal with. The constant, low level angst… it’s a help to have community.

Rhonda,
I 1,000% do not believe that Democrats just blew off the election.
We all saw the wild enthusiasm for Harris/Walz. And the unprecedented donations.
I agree.
The exit polls don’t match with the results either.
They tampered.
Duh.
It’s not who votes, it’s who counts the votes.
But I think it was more than that.
The late mail in ballots requiring you to show up.
The polls being closed for bomb threats.
Vote rolls being purged within the 60 day grace period.
There was just a lot of funny business on the part of red state legislatures to suppress the vote and disenfranchise voters.
And it won’t get better next time. It will be worse because they not only control the states, now they control the country.
I am not assuming that unengaged voters are Democrats. Many, many folks identify with neither party.

2020 was an outlier.
In some ways, yes.
But in 2020 the disaster and threat that was President Felon was fresh in people’s minds.
It’s been four years. They don’t remember how bad it was. Some were too young and didn’t pay attention.
