Porch Railings. Part II.

A little over a year ago I did a post about recreating the lost porch railings of the Cross House. I had new railings made, and had received a quote for many many many new spindles. I was just ready to mail a check when the radiator repair bill arrived. Oh dear. All projects came to a screeching halt and I spent ten months paying off the bill.

Luckily, I had most of the original spindles. Unluckily, all were in poor condition. At last though, the radiator bill was paid in full, and I belatedly ordered the new spindles…

The spindles are petite, just 11-inches high. Modern codes require MUCH taller spindles/railings, which look really odd on an old house. Luckily, again, because the Cross House is on the National Register, certain codes are waived, and I am allowed to recreate the railings just a they were 122-years ago.
