Ross IS a ding-dong

A while back (two years?) I undid the pair of sconces (another Cody score) in the parlor as they were drooping. Oh, the horror. To fix the issue, I needed to remove the boxes and reset them so the mounting bar would be vertical rather than at an angle. But, removing the boxes would damage the paint, and I no longer remember HOW the paint finish was created. Hence…the sconces looked like this for a long, long time.

And now? TA-DA! Did I do all the laborious work detailed above? Nope! A few days ago it just popped into my head that all I needed was a stouter mounting bar! And, I had some! So, a HUGE  fix turned into an effortless fix. Yep, Ross is a ding-dong. (I need to infill the stencil but that is easy.)

I’ve run into similar problems about “how the heck did I do that last time” when trying to redecorate. I have a card file where I put color swatches for each paint I’ve used, and instructions as to how I did it, including which stencil I used. Makes it a lot easier when you need to get a bit of touch up paint.

Jenine–Me too. But then I forget where I put my notes! I just saw a life hack where you write the paint color, etc for the room on the back of the light switch cover plate. I thought it was brilliant!

If you can remember you did it.

You are much more organized than I am. I should do that. But usually I end up doing a custom mix of stuff to get just the color I want and even with the most precise of directions, likely can’t duplicate the color.

What I have done is keep photos of repairs so I remember what is behind the drywall.

I try and take pictures of each stage of a project, just so I can see there has been progress, because
        sometimes they seem neverending.

By paint swatches I meant a good sized smear of the actual paint used, since I usually customize the colors. A paint store can scan that to make more paint.

Ross, it is so nice to see what the actual HOLY GRAIL looks like in place – a pair of period-appropriate gas/electric swing arm brackets! What a win on every level…

Very seldom does a mountain turn into a molehill, but so pleasant when it does. The sconce looks stunning.

When I first saw this I thought, oh boy, something about the door bell.

Did I miss a post on your vintage door bell?

Way cool bat sculpture on the mantel!

I use a spreadsheet for paint colors. How boring! And pix of the paint cans. I do like the idea of the big scannable, swatches. And the back of the light switch plate. Thanks l

I’m getting old victorian vibes, love it, I mean look what they put over the drywall, priceless!
