Ross Joy

Previously, I posted about the attic of the Cross House. It is the only part of the house I have never cleaned. In this previously posted image, the HVAC fan coil unit has just been removed by Modern Air, and most of the flex ducting also removed.

A new metal trunk line was installed, and most of the old flex ducts were then reinstalled. I loathe flex ducting and have ruthlessly torn it out of the Cross House, and the carriage house, for eight years now. But Ryan, from Modern Air, urged me to retain them in the attic. He did though stretch them, making them vastly more efficient. “They had never been stretched,” he explained. I had no idea.

The pull-down stair to the attic is upper left. Before, the air intake/exhaust lines (the two white pipes, left) were in front of the stair. So, to access the attic, one had to climb over them. This drove me nuts. And see the two flex ducts (far left)? These, too, were in the way, and both had been crushed by people stepping on them. Now, all this is out of the way to the side. Ross happy.

The fan coil unit had been in the attic and on its side. It dripped water, destroying the ceiling. It was also hard to access, making changing the filter or servicing difficult. Now, it is vertical, and effortlessly accessible on the third floor. I will build a closet around it. And clean it!
I have yearned to do this work since 2014.
The attic is now much more accessible. The HVAC system is now much more efficient (making it less expensive to operate), and easily serviced.
And soon, soon, Ross will haul the shop vac into the attic. His pleasure will be so great that it will be felt across the globe. So, if you are washing the dishes or making the bed this upcoming week, and suddenly experience a great wave of happiness, yes, that will be Ross Joy.

Looks better already! Baby steps equal big results! So satisfying for you I am sure
Efficient good. Serviceable good. Cleaning good.
Now, will you be putting down a floor in the attic? I ask because I have done the joist hopping thing and have also had to repair my kitchen ceiling when I put a foot through it.
Yay!
Looks immensely better!
You are getting closer to realizing your vision & taking care of damaged ares & areas causing damage!
Wow, that’s a lot of work and a big improvement. Anything you can do to make heating and cooling more efficient pays off immensely over time. Well done, you.*
*PS. I’ll let you know if this inspires me to go into my attic. No promises, but I might open the hatch and take a look for the first time since we moved here.
Bravo, Ross! Many achievements!
1) safety: no more tripping hazard at the pulldown stair/ attic entry area. No more stepping of the intake/ exhaust pipes nor flexible ducts. Pipes and ducts remain intact.
2) efficiency: fan coil unit easy access/ monitor. No need to crouch down nor use a flash light to check on it.
3) durability: less applied weight on the pipes and ducts, from being stepped on. Maintains the integrity of the pipes and ducts, less chance of leaking.
4) cleanliness: because… Ross is a god (cleanliness is next to godliness, amIright?).
Ooooh I so look forward to the wave of happiness! Great job!
