Santa Arrives Early
On October 3rd I received this email from Wendy:
Hello Ross, I follow your blog and I have an antique bedroom set and a settee that need a new home. They were donated to our restoration project that we’re in the process of selling and the buyer does not want them. I can send pics if you’d like to take a look. The bedroom set includes the marble top dresser and matching washstand all in great condition and the full size bed which needs a little work. The settee is beautiful. If they are something you could use we could probably deliver.
Then, Wendy and her husband, Mark, delivered the fixture.
Ummm…WOW! So, not only a great gift, but with delivery!
In return, I gave Wendy and Mark a in-depth tour of the Cross House. It proved a lot of fun!

With matching wash dresser. 1890s, I think. Wow! These will go into the Secret Bedroom of the carriage house.

Kenny said this was a hat dresser. I had no idea. The sweet door to the top was for a hat! Is this circa-1905? Is it missing legs or wheels? I love it! Look how tall it is!

GORGEOUS headboard (there is also a matching footboard, and rails). 1890s, I think. This will go in the master bedroom of the carriage house.
The three of us had a wonderful time. Great questions! A lot of laughing!
And, this was so very kind and generous of Wendy and Mark. I told them that they had a permanent VIP pass to the Cross House.

This is the most remarkable thing!!
Santa Claus came early in manifestation of Wendy and Mark!
What dear, kind people!
Also, the most remarkable furniture!
Love the settee!!!!
wow, Ross, you are a lucky guy! I love that Eastlake style. Your “hat dresser” is usually called a Gentleman’s Dresser in my parts (sw washington state). I have one that was homemade, and they didnt put the hatbox there, but instead, a small drawer and a couple shelves. Mine is on casters/wheels, as are most of them that I’ve seen. Enjoy your bounty!
How awesome! What a treasure and gift! Just stunning!🥰
OMG!!!!!
THAT is SO unique and FABULOUS!!!
Lucky you,Ross!!!
And wonderful of the couple to find and deliver it to you!
I can’t believe anyone would not want those items let alone give them away!
Wow, cool furniture!
We have a very similar dresser to the first one, but with a wood top instead of marble that was passed down from my wife’s family. She currently uses it for her main dresser!
Wow! What a lovely, perfect gift. Wise people to know they will be truly loved and appreciated.
That wash dresser is fun! I want one now 🙂
Holy cannoli !! what a wonderful gift and free delivery too from Wendy & Mark. All the pieces are beautiful. I have never seen a wash dresser like that with the huge mirror attached. Is that why it’s called a wash dresser instead of a commode? Or maybe just another word for it. Anyway, marvelous.
Such beautiful gifts from Wendy and Mark. They gifted you 3 lovely pieces of solid wood furniture, and they also personally delivered it to you! So wonderful. An early Merry Christmas indeed!
Oh, my. So incredibly generous of Wendy and Mark. My gosh, I would love these pieces and I am not lucky enough to live in anything as beautiful as the Cross House. There is a special place in Heaven for folks like Wendy and Mark. I hope you comp them a weekend in the Cross House as you progress.
