Shaving the House

Yesterday, Justin and I worked to close the Cross House up a bit more. On the LONG to do list were the three stained-glass windows of the stairhall niche.
The three windows had air blowing in through and around them. While this is bad, the issue was compounded by the fact that the house sagged at this particular area, meaning that the upper and lower sashes did not align in the middle, meaning that the lock sets did not close.
We removed the upper sashes and carefully cut the tops. Eek. Once reinstalled, the lock sets would/should work as intended.
Yesterday was cold and windy. With each sash removed, freezing air BLEW into the toasty niche. Ross unhappy. Then I found a box by Baker (holding the extra leaves to the dining table) and this proved the ideal size for blocking the wind. Ross happy!
It did not take long, and soon the upper sashes were shaved. The lock sets now worked as God intended (Ross VERY happy) and then I spent a while carefully, artfully sealing the windows with peal-away caulk.
And then, for the first time ever, the triple windows were leak-proof, air-wise.
Squee!!!!!!!!

With our egos crazed with the power of our, ah, manliness, Justin and I then shaved the bottom of the door to the powder room, meaning that it could actually close! It was unable to so for who knows how many years. Justin and I? SUPER MEN!

OOOOOh! Hardware porn! Ross you’re so bad!
Oh the lust……
So, are you going to fix the sag? Or was this sag that already got fixed?
The most beautiful piece of hardware I’ve ever seen!!!
Is it just me, or does that gorgeous handle look upside down??
I have to agree with you on that one. It seems the thicker part should be facing up in order to grab properly for the hand.
Plus, the leaves of the flower are facing down.
Plus, the leaves of the flower are facing down. Clearly it was installed like that in the 1890’s.
What a gorgeous piece of hardware! I need a cigarette…
