Something…Surprising

Yesterday, I woke to an email from a name I did not recognize.

The subject line: “My new design for your bathroom.”

Huh?

I thought: Has a reader offered a design for one of my bathrooms?

I clicked on the image.

WTF?

EEK!

WTF????????

It took me a moment before realizing that this is the Mouse Palace Motel bathroom in the basement.

And Scott and Justin had decided…it should be gone.

Scott, covered in dust. The demo generated a massive amount of dust, which is why the work needed to be done before I move my lighting inventory into the basement.

The bathroom…EXPOSED!

The ghost outline of the tub. This view has been invisible for 70 years.

The dark areas are just dust.

I did not authorize the work to actually begin! Thus, my surprise.

The plan is that very soon we will take advantage of the good weather months to finish the cat fence. During this time, if it is raining, the bathroom will be an ideal ongoing project.

When the temperature gets blistering, Scott and Justin will come inside to enjoy the AC and finish all the plumbing.

Ah, Scott and Justin cannot take it anymore. 😁
Must say I am relieved and thank them for the intervention.

    Nice plan.

Will the tub go to salvage or be reused in the Carriage House?

That is going to be a nice big bathroom. It’s a really good size compared to some of the ones I’ve grown up with.

I encourage a shower because you never know about emergencies. Or things that are too big to fit in the sink. Could you make it a wet room? If not, I would sure put a small settee where the tub used to be.

That clean out thing, round looking “can” with a lid on top with a square nut? I just saw that on either This Old House or Ask This Old House this past week.

Well, that speeded things up a bit! 🙂

Kudos… it is a good thing for friends like Scott and Justin. Think of how cool it will be to work in the cooler basement during the summer months … and how cool to have a bathroom if you have to seek shelter during a severe storm!
