Visitors

I have previously written about Harold, and his late wife, Wilma, two of my favorite-ever people.

Harold has now visited the Cross House twice, and on his last visit he came as Santa Claus.

Harold, and his wild & crazy friends. From left: Anita (Harold and Wilma’s daughter), Laura, Kathy, Machelle, Harold, and Tom (standing).

Then, last week, my iPhone rang while I was up on scaffolding painting. I did not recognize the number, so answered cautiously.

It turned out to be Alan, son of Harold and Wilma. We had never met.

Alan said: “My wife, Patty, and I are going stir-crazy locked up in our house. Could we drive up from Tulsa for a tour of the Cross House?”

I replied: “As a son of Harold and Wilma, you are not only invited, but will receive the full-blown VIP tour! Your wish is my command!”

Patty and Alan at the end of the almost 5-hour tour.

Lucky people to be able to come for a tour. On my bucket list, Ross!

I live in Long Island, NY. This makes this drive for me around 10-12 hours, all told. Nevertheless, I plan to make the journey one day! The cross house is too amazing a story to not witness in person if I can make it!

(Just kidding, it’s more like 20 hours. I’m still planning on going anyway.)

Unrelated to this current post but wanted to make sure you saw this house on Old House Dreams! I think you need a Gothic home to restore and this one has SO MANY original bits in situ! (and another carriage house to fix up :P) https://www.oldhousedreams.com/2020/09/07/c-1871-gothic-revival-in-auburn-ny-auction/

Yes, that would be a great home for Ross to adopt! Not much, if any painting outside, and cool features inside ! Great tin ceiling in the kitchen though, and Ross doesn’t go for that.
