NOTE: I have NOT been kidnapped by aliens!

Rather, I have Influenza B, and have been knocked out since Saturday.

Because the gods have, it seems clear, a cruel sense of humor, I have sold a number of lights since Saturday. Ny normal reaction? SQUEE!!!!!

My reaction of late? Fuck! How will I get the energy to pack?

A few nights ago I worked till 1am packing THREE fixtures. My brain felt like it was encased in concrete. My whole body ached. My nose ran.

It turned out though that, by moving at a snails’s pace, I was able to incrementally progress. Thank goodness for the famous Baby Steps Method! So, what normally would take, say, four hours, took seven. But…drum roll, please…I shipped the three boxes on time.

On top of my business, I still needed to move ahead at the Cross properties. I arrived at the Carriage House on Saturday (when all Hell broke loose), managed about a 1/2 of hour work, and went back home. Well, that was more done than the day before! At the time though, I did not know what was wrong with me. I thought it was just age.

And that would prove the good day. Monday, after getting my test results, I arrived at the Carriage House, managed to have lunch, then drove right back home. But at least I now knew that I had cooties.

Today I had five naps. Ditto for most of the days since Saturday. Old Fine has been quite happy with all this snuggle time.

The health center said adults recover in 4-7 days so I am crossing my aching fingers to feel all anew by this weekend.

Wanna see some beauty? Some of my recent sales:

1940s Lightolier. Tooooo yummy!

Another 1940s Lightolier. Dazzling! But wait!

It’s surface-mounted twin! Same buyer! I’m excited!

Fleur-de-lis chandelier! Amazing original polychrome!

You say you weren’t kidnapped by aliens and then show us photos of the most beautiful spaceships.

Yes, nothing like the flu to knock you out. Just don’t push yourself too much too soon. Rest and heal. In the long run you’ll get more done waiting to get fully healthy.

I am a great believer in your baby steps method. It is helping me to accomplish things around my own house. I have finally got my front south bed weeded and I planted a grapevine, a rose tree and a rose bush. Those were all the steps I could manage. I have hydrangeas, cannas, callas and more roses to go, plus bulbs for glads, freesias and four iris. And annual seeds to direct sow. At the rate I am baby stepping I might be done in a week. There is plenty else to do but I am so pleased I am finally planting this planter. It’s been planned for over a decade but the task just seemed so big. But with a little step at a time it is finally progressing.

Sending good healing energy wishes your way, Ross. The lamps are truly beautiful, and now that they are gone, only two things should be priority: healing and petting a cat. Please allow me to suggest you focus the same commitment you use in baby steps towards taking good care of your body.

Did they give you Tamiflu medicine? That works wonders!! Also, did you get the flu shot? I have and it definitely works. Get well soon!

What an amazing fleur-de-lis chandelier! I was recently lucky enough to find two polychrome Markel sconces hiding in my apartment building’s basement, and am now undergoing the daunting task of repairing them. Ever since finding them and going back through your catalog of Markel fixtures and various adventures fixing them, I have gained a new sense of awe and respect for your lighting business.

I hope you have a speedy recovery. You get more done while you’re sick than I do when I’m well. You’ve got a lot of grit. Those gorgeous fixtures are to die for!

Flu – UGH. Lots of water & NO sweets – keep food simple, go with broths. Ross, please rest as much as possible, or it will just keep dragging you along. 🐈‍⬛ Beautiful weather awaits your recovery! 🌻

LOVE the lightoliers. Did you sell them, or did the customer own them and ask for refurbishment?

    • Ross on April 20, 2024 at 10:35 am

The Lightolier’s were mine, Roxanna. Yes, I sold them.
