PLEASE save this house!

This just breaks my heart. This is an INCREDIBLE house in Fleischmanns, NY. While the porch is in extreme condition, it is mostly intact and could be restored. It would be far far worse if the porch had been lost over the years.

While the porch is in extreme condition, the rest of the house appears to be in good shape. To me, the porch looks wholly restorable.

The house was designed by architect George F. Barber, who became nationally known by marketing his designs through a series of mail-order catalogs. The fabulous Old House Dreams blog has a whole list of mouth-watering Barber designs. The house above is design no. 37 from Barber’s  “New Model Dwellings.”

There is a reprint of Barber’s work.

The small community has an astounding twelve Barber-designed homes, such as this knock-out. There may be more.

Another knock-out in the town, now a retreat.

While Fleischmanns is a small town, it is less than 3 hours from NYC. I can see somebody owning a small apartment in the city, and spending their weekends in this expansive, luscious house.

Such a pitiful house, it breaks my heart anyone would allow demolition by neglect to happen to an old home like that.

Reminds me, this recent article on one of my favorite homes.

Well as far as I can see after several Google searches, the house is not for sale. At one point someone suggested knocking on the door or speaking to town officials. It’s sad but it may be in even worse shape now. The pics are from 2008 I think.

Is it for sale? How much is it?

      I don’t know, Luke.

Zillow states that the house is not for sale. That does not mean though that it cannot be purchased.

Here are more recent, and horrifying, images.
